Re: Fort Regulars
But, where do I even find the game?
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
I'll be the only one playing the actual TR save file, though.
The Esc key isn't working for me on the menu to set up the hotkeys. Is there a different key for that on a Mac keyboard?
Honestly, I have no idea since I can't seem to find any mac key binding tuts anywhere. I'm sure they must exist since there's a mac version of the game and people do use macs, but google has never heard of them before.
EDIT: Oh look that's seven. Looks like we have no miners, so I'll change from being an engraver to being a miner. Otherwise we'd all be standing around doing nothing for about two years game time.
That would be boring.

Re: Fort Regulars
I embarked on a prarie, which is where we'll be building our glorious fortress. There's only one problem, and that is that I was just attacked by hordes of creatures.
I'll post a journal entry after this battle is finished. It sure is a good thing Vamp changed to "something actiony" or else we'd all be dead.

Journal of Peregrine, 7th Malachite, 262, Mid-Summer.
I say, nothing like a wagon ride. Just you, six of your kin, dreaming of all the riches that await you. Or at least, it was all fun and games, but then...
Rhesus macaques out of nowhere! Fiends! Come to steal our cave spider silk rope no doubt! It was madness. Eight villainous rhesus macaques against seven noble dwarves, two loyal dogs, a stoic horse and a smelly mule. We immediately ran away, for we were outnumbered by the monkeys. But wait, were we cowards, or was it perhaps, a cunning flank? As the rhesus macaques thought their victory assured our expedition leader, a dwarf named Vamparagon leaped from the wagon flanked by the two dogs. They tore through the rhesus macaques, killing all eight of them.
And we helped! Sorta.
After this minor setback we set to work immediately. I dug out a main farming and community level into the mountain side and then started to dig downwards where I'm working on a crafting level. While we labour, our leader Vamp goes around flanked by his two wardogs and barks orders at us, occasionally giving the odd lazy dwarf a jab with his crossbow.
And sometimes when he has the time off he fishes.
Truly he is the dwarf we all aspire to be.

Yes.
Anyway. Sorry for a lack of updates. It's just been a really dull fort.
Journal of Peregrine, 22nd Moonstone, 262, Early Winter.
Brrr! I say chaps, it's cooling down. If only we had a proper magma pipe so I could fill the fort with some heat. And some magma. Well, I guess we'll just have to make do with wearing our clothes. Good thing we know how to do that!
Despite the cold season, a group of dwarves showed up earlier today. Apparently they're help sent from the mountain homes. Our new additions to the fort include:
2 Glassmakers.
1 Fishery Worker.
1 Engraver.
3 Planters.
1 Administrator.
1 Pump Operator.
I don't know their names yet but I'm sure I'll learn them eventually ((that means you can claim any of these dwarves or wait for the ones you actually wait to show up)).
There's also love in the air this season! We've got no less than three couples in the fort already, Vamparagon and Chamberino, Nagi and Shadow, and Vamp's two war dogs apparently are also together. I sure hope they invite me to all their weddings. I do so love excuses to drink!
They're not going to invite me are they. :(

Your dwarves have a gender, personality, etc. randomly assigned to them and then they are free to go around and meet the other dwarves for themselves. I guess your dwarf and Vamp's dwarf clicked.
