Re: Vampire or Lycan?
I must say Vampire, mostly because I missed out on Vampire class (well technically I, being a noob back then, sold it), and I has a vague hope they might give me eet!

AE Werewolves, vampires and Werepyres can all change when they like and aren't damaged by the sun. The minor werewolves are also quite elegant.

Re: Vampire or Lycan?
I've just remembered another reason I picked werewolf. It's because I personally felt that girls choosing vampires are rather cliche, and passe, if you will. I've never been one to follow conventions closely.

I'm curious... what prompted you to come to that assumption? I can assure you that I didn't choose vampire to stick to convention, I just have a genuine preference for vampires over werewolves. If your reason is what I suspect it to be, I preferred vampires over werewolves before golden eyes and vampiric-styled "vegetarianism" was all the rage (though if you want to be specific, vampires can dine on animal blood if they so choose).

Re: Vampire or Lycan?
No, it's not what you think it is. It's just my own thoughts from way back in 2005, and my tiny bunch of online friends back then preferred vampires just because they were in among that small group in those days. I simply wanted to be a bit different. I can understand your preference for vampires didn't come out from convention, though.

Re: Vampire or Lycan?
I'd say it's too hard to choose between the two. Twilight and the manga Vampire Knight did ruin Vampire fiction for me but there are good vampire books out there like Bram Stoker's Dracula, Hellsing and MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series.
As a kid I always enjoyed "Big Wolf on Campus" and werewolves in general.
Vampire
Pros
-Immortal
-In many cases are sexy
-Old school ones were powerful but not invulnerable
-Can easily be distracted if you chuck grains of rice, stones, buttons, etc. They will pick up and count every single one, allowing you to escape (though not good if you're the vampire)
Cons
-Modern ones are sparkly and angsty and have none of the weaknesses of the Old School Ones
-Can't eat garlic bread
-Sleeping in a coffin full of dirt
-Have to stay away from gardening stores
Werewolf
Pros
-Can walk under sunlight
-Fur helps keep them warm in winter
-Solid food
Cons
-Fleas and worms
-Some cannot socialise once a month
-Shedding
-Thick fur is not good in summer
Though more recent works I came across during a recent trawl of the Young Adult section of Borders lead me to a recently published anthology of vampire/werewolf/other romance in which every story basically followed the formula of:
-human female falling in love with non-human male (bonus points if female is a teenage vampire slayer/werewolf hunter etc)
-male doesn't want to be in a relationship with female (due to obvious differences)
-random plot filler stuff happens
-big climax where male realises his feelings for female
-they all live happily ever after (riding unicorns and tap-dancing with fairies)
If I ignore the recent stuff, Vampires are on top, including recent stuff, Werewolves edge out.
Which reminds me I should really finish my little comic strips I drew ages ago.

It just occured to me that this is probably going to be a mini evil/good system.
Gaining rep for one race unlocks items, but not from the other.

Re: Vampire or Lycan?
Not trying to sound rude, but I take offense at comments like "Twilight ruined vampires!" or "Vampire Knight ruined vampires!" I personally enjoyed them because in truth, I rarely read something just because of what the characters are like. I wouldn't care if these two were about humans, gods, or even snails. I would most likely still read them because I enjoyed the story. If you don't like a certain story, why mention it? It just annoys the people, like myself, who actually did like them.
