Subcultures

Post by Guest on Sat May 01, 2010 3:29 am

So yeh, I learned a new word: Subcultures (about... 7 years ago)
Basically it means a small group of people that share the same ideas or hobbies (IE: Goths, Skiers, Bungee-Jumpers, etc)
With this in mind, I got to wondering about what you guys take part in (today, im pretty slow huh?), so I made this topic:
Basically this is the place to say if your part of a subculture, which one, talk about it, hopefully it can lead to everyone understanding each other a bit better, and even maybe finding new interests (IE: Wixmagic and Ryzaa discover they are both die hard fans of chair-making or something) ^^
Just one thing though, no trying to sell what you are doing, or any insulting comments on others behalf.
(and to make myself clear here: if its something you do by yourself sometimes, its a hobby, you become part of the subculture when you do it with a larger group of people, discuss it, maybe take part in a forum about it, or have some sort of place where you can meet others that do the same thing)

Subcultures you say? Well, at least in school, I'm practically in my own individual group. I'm the one that stands out from the jocks, the trouble making group, etc. I'm like that odd peanut you pull out of the bag that is merged with another one.

I dun know, sometimes I fit in the the Anime Nerds :D and sometimes I fit in with the athletic kids being on the varsity tennis team, but I dont really limit myself to one type of person to be my friend, I know and are friends with a lot of different subcultures of people :D.

I don't fit anywhere, I just float around, allowed to be anywhere but not particularly wanted to be kept anywhere.

I've have to be with the Otaku these days. I'm president of AnimeSoc at my Uni and I cosplay.

In high school I would've been classified as a more general nerd (science club secretary, Straight E's (for Excellence) and always reading sci-fi or fantasy novels. But I was athletic, entering running competitions, rollerblading to and from school, and playing badminton, as well as being musical, playing trombone in the school's jazz band. Though I was friends with a lot of people with different subcultures. Still am.

Closest thing to a "subculture" I'm in is my fifth-period class... the place is full of eccentric nerds who like writing stories and telling Internet jokes.
