Sophronia Rosenthal, Marchioness Langley.

Backstory: Sophronia was born to wealthy german aristocrats. She had an older brother, who drowned when Sophronia was 12. She was educated by the best tutors money could buy in languages, music and, after her brother’s death, business and the sciences. Her father was a renowned military tactician, often enthralling the young girl with his descriptions of battles and sharing his love of war. At the age of 17, her father was killed when the cutter he was returning to Germany on was attacked by English naval forces who mistook it for a pirate vessel, her mother followed soon after from the proverbial “broken heart”. She was made a ward of her senile great-aunt who permitted Sophronia to manage her finances with the assistance of her father’s lawyer. At the age of 20, she decamped for England, and became involved in the social scene. Putting her wealth to work, she invested wisely in trading companies. Despite her perceived inferiority due to being a foreigner, she received many proposals from English gentlemen due to her beauty and wealth, marrying twice, only to have both die within months of marriage, leaving her initially a countess, then a marchioness.
Using her wealth and status, she became the patron of a number of scientists and inventors, especially those with a focus on building weaponry and related items. She set up Rosenthal Munitions and now employs hundreds of workers; selling various weaponry, steam-powered exoskeletons and dirigibles to whoever has the money. She also bought the majority share of one of the main trading companies, hiring mercenaries to help protect her munitions as they travel the globe.

Personality: Cold, calculating, ambitious underneath a veneer of charm and elegant beauty.
Likes: The theatrical arts, the physical sciences, playing the harp.
Dislikes: English dances, balls and tea parties. Mentions of her late husbands. Getting her hands to dirty. "That's what men are for."
Ambitions: Accelerate an arms race between the main sovereign nations. Become most powerful person on the planet.
