Just so everyone knows, there's a new version of dwarf fortress JUST released, so this fort is postponed until I figure out new mechanics. I haven't FORGOTTEN about it, I'm just delaying it for a more action packed experience.

Or less depending on if the new version is good.

WE'LL SEE.

Re: Fort Regulars V: The Empire Strikes Back

Since I'm a huge jerk, instead of doing first come first serve like I usually do I've decided to pick the seven of you that will be most useful for the first seven dwarves. Hopefully that makes the fort more interesting since it means things will actually happen.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 1st of Granite, 3, Early Spring:

I can't believe how lucky I am. King Vamparagon put me in charge of a group of dwarves, gave me a wagon filled with supplies, and sent me on my way to build a fantastic new fortress in his glory! We even got a mule! I always wanted a mule!

Yippie!

It's truly an honour for an engraver like myself to be working with six legends such as:

MRSEBI THE MINER, a short sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. The subject of much gossip back in the mountainhomes, along the lines of why a female uses the title "Mr."
RAGE THE SPEAR MINER, a short sturdy creature font of drink and industry. A miner who mines with a spear. No one questions him since he's just as good with a spear as Sebi is with a pick, although whether that is a positive reflection upon Rage or a negative reflection upon Sebi, we'll never know.
FLAW OF INSANITY THE MASON, a short sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. Good man, knew him back in the mountainhomes. We'll have to spill some drinks together later.
SHADOW THE CARPENTER, a short sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. He hasn't said much, he's been listening to some music on his dorfPod. Flaw got a look at it earlier, it's Linkin Park. Looks like we've got an emo on our hands.
DARRE THE LUMBERJACK, a short sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. Seems more like a woodcutter to me than a lumberjack, but whatever.
JULIANA THE HERBALIST, a short sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. She claims to be able to pick any plant known to dwarfkind. I don't know what a plant is. Is she talking about gems? That'll be really useful later on.

It may be tough but I know we can make Eastdot the Tree of Trees (that's the fort's name) the best fortress ever made. The Rainy Fist-Banners (that's our group's name) never back down from a challenge! NEVER!

Although I'm a little concerned about the supplies we were given. Instead of meat like was requested we got a few barrels filled with dragonfly brains. I wasn't even aware dragonflies HAD brains. There was also a vial in the wagon. I think it's full of troglodyte blood. It's kind of weird Vamparagon would issue us a single vial of troglodyte blood.

But like I said, NEVER.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 20th Granite, 3, Early Spring:

So get this. Sebi and Rage got some rooms dug into the mountain and then they FLOOD THEM.

I'm like WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

They're like IRRIGATING.

Meanwhile, Darre has been busy cutting wood. I knew he was a woodcutter. Shadow's been making beds, barrels and storage bins out of the wood Darre cuts down, but it's strange. The furniture he makes all has these scary faces carved into it. Sometimes when I get close to the stuff he makes, I hear screaming and crying.

Juliana's been acting oddly as well. She keeps bringing these weird things back to the camp. She calls them names like "berries" and "grass". I don't know of any gems with names like those. I think she might be an elf spy sent here to kill us all. I've been talking to the vial of troglodyte blood. It agrees with me that I'm the only sane one left.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 4th Felsite, 3, Early Spring:

Sebi and Rage say the underground pools of water they tapped into to flood the rooms might not be enough to fully irrigate the caverns. That means we might have to start hauling buckets of water from the river and irrigate them manually. I'm scared. There are pike in the river and Darre says he saw a herd of unicorns nearby too.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 14th Limestone, 3, Early Autumn:

Some migrants arrived, seven new dwarves. Thanks to them Flaw and I's job of flooding some rooms manually with buckets was made a lot easier. No one even died in surprise unicorn/pike/rhesus macaque attacks! Hooray!

With farms irrigated and ready to go Sebi and Rage are now hard at work mining out some store rooms. It's time to get our supplies inside the mountain where it'll be safe and not stolen.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 22nd Sandstone, 3, Mid-Autumn:

We got some MORE migrants. Fort population is currently at a grand 22 dwarves. I took one of the new dwarves aside, a cook named Wixmagic, and told him that since the fish from the river scared me and I didn't trust Juliana's "plants", I wanted him to get the farms up and running so we could grow some purple mushrooms with the seeds we brought. He didn't know the first thing about farming, so I gave him a crash course. It went something like this:

"PUT THE SEEDS IN THE GROUND.
WAIT FOR THE SEEDS TO GROW UP.
EAT DELICIOUS MUSHROOMS."

In even BETTER news, Sebi and Rage hit a rock layer mining.

OBSIDIAN, AWWW YEAH.
HEMATITE, AWWW YEAH.
TETRAHEDRITE, AWWW YEAH.
GOLD, AWWW YEAH.
Microline. Neat.

Apparently my dwarf has the appearance of an 80 year old woman. Other than that, coolio. Sounds awesome so far, looking forward to the future of fort rainy-banana or whatever we're called.

In during Tom doesn't get the joke.

Journal of Nish "Peregrine" Limercatten, 1st of Granite, 4, Early Spring:

Today marks the first year we've been here, and what a day it was. First, one of our fishery workers as possessed by an unknown force, grabbed some gold, marched into a craftsdwarf's shop and started demanding gems. We didn't have any gems so Sebi started digging downwards and OH MY GOD WHAT DID YOU DO SEBI.

http://i55.tinypic.com/28ahjpf.jpg

Since it's likely that the place is filled with monsters we haven't expanded into it yet. Fortunately a supply caravan from Vamparagon dropped by and brought us some nice gems from the mountainhomes which the crazy guy used to create this snazzy ring.

http://i51.tinypic.com/152ylcg.jpg

Unfortunately due to the supplies being left outside for us we were attacked by a passing band of monkeys who stole many of our valuables.

http://i52.tinypic.com/2mn24w.jpg

Those bloody monkeys.

So.

First person to post decides whether or not we ditch what we currently have and go to live in the underground caverns filled with monsters.

Keep in mind when deciding that losing is fun!

So let's establish now that Tom is the man fully responsible for any deaths that are about to occur.

Yay, lets all live in a dark cavernous expanse while we have few if any weapons or defense because they were stolen by monkeys!
