Rank Requests
Sun Jan 10, 2010 10:23 am by V
With all the rank requests recently, I thought I'd make a central thread where they could all be requested.
Costs of ranks:
Custom Rank 7,500 Points
Colored/Bolded Rank 15,000 Points

A Video Game Competition Forum
A sub category in the video games section of the forum called "Competition" in which we can play online flash games, record our score and compete for first place. Therefore making the conversation about a flash game more interesting or engaging. It would be similar to the "NO TIME TO EXPLAIN" thread and maybe even as awesome as Infinitystyle.com's Arcade. (Screenshot's provided below)
More Unlikely but Awesome Ideas:
-Weekly/Monthly/Daily Competitions for first place (Maybe even prizes)
-Cons again, based upon flash games!
-Generally more active forum
Infinitystyle screenshots:
Screenshot 1. Of the scoreboard area for arcade-wide totals
Game page while you play the game and all the content around it.
The Game Specific scoreboard that is available after you play.

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
I guess I should clarify as my suggestion was quite vague.
Imagine the "NO TIME TO EXPLAIN" thread but with a leaderboard in the first post as well as the game. Everybody that replies in the thread plays the game then posts their score. The threadmaker could update the Leaderboard with new scores or we could get staff to. At the end of like a week or 3 pages you pick a winner and two runners ups. A new contest could then start. Discussion is welcome to be posted along with scores.

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
Well, can anyone take a flash game and copy it with a new, empty leaderboard? Seems like a possible feat. Otherwise it could get pretty labor intensive to keep changing up High Scores and require people to screenie scores to make sure nobody is lying.......

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
What we need to do is find an html (or other script insertable into an html page) that offers that kind of functionality. Does anyone know of one?

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
I could ask IS forums how they did it if you want.

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
I didn't find any leads into the areas of copying a flash game and blanking the leaderboards or having a flash game automatically update the leaderboards. BUT I found out how IS forums did it.
http://www.ibparcade.com/ is a site in which it looks like you purchase the arcade platform from. Unfortunately the site isn't working for me right now, I'll research further later on.

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
Hm, okay. I would be interested to see if you had to install that into a given hardware, such as Invision, or be able to embed the code directly into an HTML page (or a web server).

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
I know of the Thunder Arcade, it's pretty cool but works only for Zetaboards so far. I don't know if you can juggle with the forum code over here to make it work though.

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
Does it access the forum API/software? Forummotion doesn't allow that, unfortunately.
Actually, does Kongregate offer localized scoreboards, between certain groupso of users?

Re: A Video Game Competition Forum
There is an extra scores tab at Kongregate that only shows your scores in comparision with your friend's scores. If that's what you mean. It only works for the game you're currently playing though.
