This is the major problem with conflict, once it starts: it becomes a non-stop chain of revenge and backlash until one or all sides are dead. Until somebody buries the hatchet, it will not stop.
Granted, that is a GENERAL overview of conflict and in this situation may not apply best, but it is a problem!

I agree that the celebrations were way overboard. I think the backlash won't be bad enough to override the damage Osama's death will cause to Terrorism, in the long run, however.
