Bakugan

Post by Mrsebi on Wed May 04, 2011 11:43 pm

So have you guys heard about this game?
A while back I was in the toystore planning to get some legos, when I noticed some of these things were on sale, so I bought a starter pack and two traps, then took it home and tried playing a few games with my grandma (she was the only one home xD)
Anyways, it was pretty fun.
Basically, you have these small balls that you have to roll over magnetic cards (or gate cards) that make up the playing field, then you if you did it correctly; the magnet activates the ball and it transforms automatically into a small monster (its pretty cool). Afterwards, the opponent has to do the same and if two monsters wind up on the same card, its a battle. At this point each player can use their skill cards or whatnot and the gate card is flipped over to reveal an additional effect, in the end a monster loses and the winning player gets the gate card.
First person to get X amount of gate cards wins.
Have you guys heard of this/played it before? If not I recommend it, discuss!

Why does this remind me of Beyblade?

Because they are both stylized games of popular children's playground games, marble and spinning tops respectively.
I think Hasbro did a Battle B-Daman thing at one point, that was these robots that shot marbles.
Didn't work out as well as Beyblade.
Still... apparently Bakugan is one of the best sold toys in America, which bugs me: Gogos were always better! (although I liked marbles as well)

I watched the Bakugan when it first came out. Was really infuriatingly generic for shows of its genre. I suspect the game to be so too.

However I played that B-Daman thing and it was actually pretty cool, show was still bad though.

I'm somewhat familiar with the show. They have a maori dubbed version here in NZ.

My little brothers had a fascination with the toys for a while.

Show is basically the new Yu-Gi-Oh. Which was basically the new Pokemon. Which was basically the new Digimon. Lineage ends here.

I admit to having watched a few episodes before I decided it was just another one of those dang shows where they drag out the story and something only happens in every other episode, and it is directed towards children.

What do you build? I haven't played with legos in years, but I always liked to build cars and stuff. I sucked at legos.

K'NEX, on the other hand. That, I was good at. I still have a K'NEX ferris wheel I built on my dresser. For nostalgia purposes.

Also the Bakugan show sucks. The toys talk to you, and when they battle they somehow teleport to an alternate dimension and fight with giant monsters. And always come out unharmed.

What bothers me is the accuracy, I mean the game itself works, but in the show its all about the character using a seemingly bottomless amount of ability cards: really the fact that they pretend its still a game is kinda embarrassing: they just oughta have the monsters be summoned or something, and the duke it out like in the pokemon anime.
As for the legos, I have a preference for robots, but really I will build anything.

I'm sorry but Bakugan is just....someone trying to get their money's worth by trying to take elements from previous popular serious such as Yugioh, Pokemon, and Digimon as Erik has said. I really don't see how Yugioh was the new pokemon, I mean it did turned kid's attention away from Pokemon and on to it I guess, but it really isn't much like it.

LORD OF THE RINGS IS THE NEW HARRY POTTER.

Anyway the fact that Sebi thinks toys are cool is really no big deal. He likes to create things and uses lego as his medium. I think we can all agree that lego is cool. Besides, it's not like he's the only one, tons of teenagers and even adults still like to design things with lego. Who do you think makes the designs sold in the kits?

Sebi is just one of those people who will some day bring joy to thousands of children around the world. Sort of like Santa Claus.
