I'm serious. ignoring the fact that the first two chars he made are basically red, white and black. The Cial one has barely any shading and otherwise blocky colors, all black lines, etc.

AF said he uses MS Paint awhile back. I tried to make her use PDN, but idk if she did it.

If she did, she probably doesn't use advanced colors.

Sebi, even if you think you're doing anyone a favor, you're just being a douche. I agree, her shading could use some work. But instead of saying "your art sucks", you can try to help her improve it.

Also unless I'm mistaken, the two characters she made first are supossed to look the same. I haven't really paid attention to the story she has for them, but I think it's a male/female version of the same character.

Arch, remember when you're shading that all the light is coming from one direction. It's mostly fine except the shoes are lit up on the bottom, as opposed to the rest of the picture. Also, if you darkened the shading a bit more to make it more noticeable, I think it'd look nice.

ASIDE FROM THAT, Looks cool.

Re: Mission One - The Tutorial

Post by Darre on Fri May 20, 2011 5:56 am

Kera just because some people don't think you're the Picasso or Michalangelo of pixel art doesn't mean that they think your the worst, so don't think you are and stop acting like it. No matter how unfun it feels like when people criticize, you are in fact doing this for fun so putting yourself in a mindset where you have to apologize for every mistake isn't very fun. Take criticism lightly so it doesn't strike a blow for you, but helps you improve. Even harsh criticism like Sebi's can help.

As for the criticism itself, in my opinion you should just increase contrast in the shaded colours to make it more obvious an replace the black lines with slightly more dark versions of the colour it surrounds.
Sorry if this makes no sense. Autocorrect can be a jerk sometimes.

I really like the trees. Just a suggestion, though: put some highlights on the trunks (in the center of them) to give them better perspective. It looks a little flat right now. The leaves are stellar, though!
