I couldn't even get past that little pit with all the spikes at the beginning because I suck.

I got past the little pit with all the spikes (possibly with DigDog's help) only to realize that I'm not as hardcore of a gamer as I thought as I was stuck immediately after. Maybe I should try playing it again, seeing as once you've mastered dwarf fortress you can pretty much master any game.
