Find out that I need a Gmail account.

Try it with a non gmail account that has a google account. I just assumed you needed a gmail because people that were giving them out always asked for gmail accounts.

BE SURE TO ADD ME ON FACEBOOK, FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER, AND ADD ME ON GOOGLE+, GUISE.

Doesn't sound as nice as before. I preferred the days when every YouTube channel with 500+ subs had a Facebook and Twitter only.
