Rank Requests
Sun Jan 10, 2010 10:23 am by V
With all the rank requests recently, I thought I'd make a central thread where they could all be requested.
Costs of ranks:
Custom Rank 7,500 Points
Colored/Bolded Rank 15,000 Points

so someone said i should make my own online gaming company
i know it might be like rubbing sult in your wounds to whoevers been active in TRTG but as of a few days ago a friend of mine named nolraitru suggested i should make my own game insted of trying to get into AE staff. im not particulerly sure what i want to do yet sence ive made mild headway in the AEF community recently but i wanna know what you all think sence many of you know me pretty well i can get all your opinions in one place.

For starters, use capitalization and proper punctuation if you want to be taken seriously.
Wait, that wasn't what you wanted an opinion on, right?

Learn to spell and use grammar, then learn what it takes to make a game. Then realize its too hard and give up.

Well, if you'd handle your own company like you handle your role in TRTG then nothing gets done anyway and you'll end up broke.

I wouldn't think about making a game until you can
A. Code (Which requires proper grammar)
B. Do loads of art in short periods of time
C. Find someone to fill the void of the A/B
D. Figure out a game type that will attract a large audience
I will lock on request. Just say the words.

If you are serious about starting to make real videogames, i suggest you bookmark this site and check it for AGDGs(amateur game dev general) on /v/. From what i've read while lurking, you need an artist (obviously not your first priority but concept art is great for inspiration) and you need to spend a LOT of time learning coding languages (CSS, Python, Gamemaker language, etc).
If you're thinking of making a 2d game, I recommend spending a month learning everything you can about gamemaker's language and then try to make a game. If it doesn't work out, decide if you want to try again or quit. If you want to try again, spend MORE time learning Gamemaker's language and try again.
EDIT: Throwing this in here, do it.

1) Choose a language; C# or Java (or even AS3 for Flash games) will be fine
2) READ A FOUNDATIONAL BOOK to learn the OOP principles and how to work in a language environment -- you MUST do this.
3) Once fairly fluent in the language, get a good book(s) / watch videos / tutorials on how to use your knowledge for the specific application of making vidya
4) practice a lot
You are now making vidya.

I actually wasn't joking or trolling, most people won't take you seriously if you can't even bother to use proper capitalization, punctuation and grammar. How can you expect from people to not think you're going to do a half-assed job on anything you'll attempt when writing half-assed posts like those? You might be very enthusiastic but typing everything in lowercase and not bothering about punctuation just makes you seem lazy and not worth any time or respect. It also makes you seem like a 12 year old.
