  1. I have ongoing problems with the PI system on my TR6. The current fuel system consists of a Bosch pump and a modern diaframe pressure regulator. Earlier this year I found that some of the injectors were leaking, so I replaced them all with a reconditioned set. This appeared to work for a while, but now I can see that at least one of the injectors is spraying continuously even when the engine is not running. My thought was excessive fuel pressure. Is this a likely explanation, or is there something else I should be looking at? Thank you in advance for your help Regards Bruce
  2. Hello PI nerds, and I mean that in the most respectful and affectionate way! Does anyone have any documentary evidence of when the springs in the PI metering units changed from "TR5" to "TR6", i.e., uncoloured (cadmium coated) to red? Attached is a scan from what is purported to be a Lucas maintenance manual, but I cannot vouch for it. It notes some identifying numbers but I can find nothing on two MUs I have that relate. I have read that the changeover coincides with the addition of the idle air screw on the front of the intake manifold. I have also read that it coincides with the cam change from "150bhp" to "125bhp" (not debating here the relative accuracy or otherwise of DIN vs SAE). I would love to see a Lucas or Triumph publication that documents the changeover. Do you have something? FWIW, I bought my 1971 CP-series TR6 in 1985, and the MU has red springs. They could have been changed of course, but why? That leads me to believe in the idle air screw changeover point. But we all know that logic and Triumph (or Lucas) is a tenuous relationship... FWIW 2, my spare MU has a PRV takeoff point on the MU as noted in Fig 4 in the attached doc. Am I correct in assuming it's an early TR5 unit? 3. Hi All Bit of advice on winter layup. Though we are only just in Autumn and there may well be some fine days I also have a medical issue which means I won’t be able to drive for at least a few months which puts us mid Dec at the earliest so I’m thinking the 6 won’t be used for pushing 6 months. As the petrol has been in the tank for 3 months or so already and starts to go off pretty quickly I’m going to drain it down. But how far to go? Clearly I’ll drain the tank but how much further to go? The fuel line to MU? Individual lines to injectors? Or will just having fresh fuel in the tank in 6 months time be ok after a lot of chrning of the starter? Oh and I’ve got less than a week to do it. Cheers Keith
  4. I am not planning to have this done in the near future, but are their any firms offering a service to ethanol proof the fuel systems on PIs?
  5. I have recently had to do some work on the injection on my TR6. This was due to a sticking one way valve in the banjo connection for cylinder 5. As part of this work I needed to remove the injectors from the throttle bodies so had remove the keep plates. I found it a bit of a fiddle to get the retaining bolt back in place especially when everything had go quite hot. Some time ago I remember seeing some hooked keep plates that allowed to removal of the injectors by loosening the bolt and rotating the plate by 90 degrees. Does anyone know if these are available anywhere? If not I may well knock a set up myself. Thanks. .
  6. The CR Linkage is rather uncomplicated. The thing I am really not liking is the fact it is all handled thru the first Throttle Body (TB) of 1st and 2nd Cylinder. TB 2 and TB 3 are connected thru the spindles with a set screw and spring loaded pin. I have an additional spring between Lever (98) and Bracket (108). This Spring remains however, loose and is not able to close the TB completely. This is especially the case for the middle TB (Cylinder 3-4). After I set the TBs according to the manual thru the set screw and sping loaded pin, I had a very bad idle running around 1300. After I released all screws and cable, Idle was around 950. This means, the TB discs are closed and fit. But for some reason, after proper setup the TBs do not seem to close. Question: - any advise on the springs or how to setup the Throttle Link (100) vs the Adjustment Screw at the Cable - any thoughts on this linkage? maybe swap out for upgrated version from Malcolm (Prestige Injection) or Revington? They are expensive !! Jochem
