Richard V Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I am starting this topic based on an idea from another thread (Good idea Alec ) hoping that with this title more will see and hopefully use it. Many of us travel around the UK or Europe with our cars or bits of cars on trailers in vans etc. The idea is to help out other members of the register who may need a part moving or picking up. I realise that this could lead to some "tricky situations" which Im sure we can all imagine . So lets keep it simple: no money should change hands, and lets hope it works on the basis of a good old fashioned handshake between like minded TR owners. On a positive note, this exchange of friendly help may lead to new contacts and an exchange of knowledge and experiences outside of our regional clubs. So, if you are traveling with an empty van to collect your new stage 3 engine from the other side of the country, let us know on this thread, perhaps someone may have a front wing that needs dropping off for a re-spray. In exchange it gives you a stop off the motorway for a nice mug of tea in someones TR workshop. Hope this works, Richard. Quote
stuart Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Richard I think thats an excellent idea. Being stuck out on a limb down here in sunny (at the moment ) Cornwall its always a hike to go and pick up anything, so I would find it very useful. Stuart. Quote
Rhodri Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) A very good idea. Perhaps Webby could "pin" it to the start of Buy Sell Trade so that the post doesn't get lost as it slips down. Rod Thanks Webby! Edited September 23, 2008 by Rhodri Quote
graeme Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Good idea Richard, To get the ball rolling, I travel between the North East of England and Cheltenham every week. I usually take the A19, A1, M1, M42, M5 so if somebody needs a part collecting I will try. I have a large estate car which will take most parts excluding body tub or chassis. Cheers Graeme Edited September 25, 2008 by graeme Quote

Tr4Tony Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Im already a postbox for tr stuff going to the south west, so happy to offer that .... Quote
Trevor S Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 At present I make a weekday trip between central Birmingham and Huntingdon roughly every 6 weeks by car via A14, M6, A38(M) and could possibly help (excluding very large items and engines) Quote
PILKIE Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Hi all. I am hopefully doing a deal with a guy in Bridgenorth,Shropshire, for a set of 4 x Rover P6 rostyle wheels, " no tyres are fitted", for my daily driver P6. Can anyone help with picking them up and transporting them to Malvern on the 12 oct or to Stoneleigh on the 26 oct? I havent finalized the deal yet, just sounding out the chances of helpful members!! Will buy the lucky helpful person a burger and a cuppa! PM or E me! Cheers Dave Quote
ChrisGrainge Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 I'm happy to act as a staging post for anything - also often travel around the place - up to Sheffield and Birmingham pretty frequently... Chris Quote
Richard71 Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Great Idea!!! I do a great deal of travelling worldwide and throught the UK. Though I always leave at short notice.....is the idea to post details of journey and whoever may need something collected get in touch??? Quote
boggie Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 South Buckinghamshire to Staffordshire / Cheshire border Once a month I travel from the M40/M25 junction to M6 J14/J15 and M6 J18. Happy to help if I can! Cheers, Ian Quote
Andrew Smith Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) And not just the transport of TR parts - TR people too. All being well (and subject to a medical) I will be travelling daily (M3, A303 and A360) from Farnham to Wilton (down the road(ish) from Mr Pringle), so someone could chuck me in the back of their van or boot and take me there and bring me back........consider it my contribution to going green - literally! That will save me approximately 25,000 miles a year and consequent fuel costs! Cheers Andrew Edited January 15, 2009 by Andrew Smith Quote
i8pig Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 O.k. guys, lets see if it works: I need an engine crane picked up from near Mansfield and delivered to Somerset, (Bristol to Taunton, say anywhere along the lower M5). Any offers? I live pretty close to Revingtons and travel through the New Forest to the Isle of Wight about once a month if I can help I'd be happy to. Steve Quote
PILKIE Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Has anyone had this idea work for them??? I havent!! Lucky I work for an understanding courier, but I cant abuse the freebies too much! Just a thought Steve??? If somewone can get it from Mansfield to the Stoneleigh Triumph spares day, then maybe Revingtons can get it to Somerset for you to collect from them??? Dave Edited February 12, 2009 by PILKIE Quote
i8pig Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 Will buy the lucky helpful person a burger and a cuppa! Dave, You're just too cheap mate! The Revingtons idea is a bit flawed because I would have to tell Neil what I need the engine crane for and why I hadn't bought the bits I'm fitting to the engine from him! I reckon he might be a tad reluctant (and I wouldn't blame him). I notice you are not too far from me, if you use Revingtons and need any help let me know. Steve Quote
PILKIE Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 I suppose if they had to have a slice of cake as well I would splash out I only use Revingtons for occasional parts,as I do all my own work on my cars! Quote
PILKIE Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Calling anybody around the Merseyside area and going to the Stoneleigh Triumph day ??? I may need 2 exhaust boxes picked up in the Merseyside area!! and brought to the show! Please E or PM me if you can assist !! Quote
jemgee Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Can anyone can offer help or advice as to a good cheap courier service between Auxerre, France (post code 89000) and Aldershot (post code GU11 3EH) for a package 52x52x10cm weight 25kg. It is already to pick up. Its not a TR part but a boat propeller for a 1974 river cruiser which has a ding in one blade. It is much cheaper to get it repaired here. Quote
Alec Pringle Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Parcel2Go I find pretty helpful for most of our requirements, and touch wood they haven't made any cockups of consequence collecting or delivering . . . . and they're reasonably priced. http://www.parcel2go.com/ Usual disclaimers, I'm just a satisfied customer Cheers, Alec Quote
alantr4 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 i am going to stoneleigh from east sussex . i can bring parts back if anybody needs anything collected. Quote
jemgee Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Alec thanks for your contact. I did a web search and found www.interparcel.com. Their website included import from overseas and this offered 3 courier firms. They came up with DHL who will do the job for £32+VAT so I have placed it with them on line. Hopefully it will go smoothly!! Quote
Alec Pringle Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Hi Mike, you're welcome. Apologies, I should have thought of interparcel too - my son has found them helpful for odd imports from Europe, although I haven't used them myself. Cheers, Alec Quote
