Hi,

Why fiddle with the gauge and/or sender when you can use one of these?

Cheers,

Iain.

Hi Was this an easy swap over for the TR ? Did you have to replace the gauge as well

Having run out of petrol recently -having bought the car last year & never been that low on the gauge ( between 1/8 & 1/4 full was showing when it came to a halt)   I found this brilliant thread and have just drained the tank to start the gauge calibration process detailed. BUT before I start - what the best way to get the fuel gauge out - what has to be removed to get it out - is it a matter of undoing the 5 screws holding the wooden dash panel on to get access or can access/removal be achieved another way?
TIA

Jim

Hi Jim, take the screws out, diconect  the fresh air balls , hand up behind the dash, disconnect spedo, and ref counter, pull the lights out of the speedo and rev counter pull forward.

Disconnect the wiper switch ( marking where the wires connect,

carefully pull the dash forward, (checking all the time that there are know snags) starting fron the gluve box, using a plastic lever very gently,  sometimes there is enough slack to turn the nurled brass nuts on the fuel gauge to allow the gauge to fall forward  then have a cup of T

Hope this helps pink

If you haven't, be sure to disconnect the battery before you start Jim.

Thinking about this job, you don't have to disconnect the air balls, the timber dash sits over the top and should just pull of

Managed to get the fuel gauge out with just the Revcounter and ashtray removed - mostly done by feel but saves disturbing the dash and removing all the other bits. Set the gauge to show 0/empty with 1 gallon in - had my cuppa T - and just had a run out to fill up the tank with V Power adding a dose of STA-BIL fuel stabiliser to overwinter🙂
