Keep us posted Harry. Does this MC omit the tipping valve?

Richard.

Yes it does Richard and the bore is 22.5mm which suits the Volvo servo. The fly in the ointment could be they no longer stock it and I will not know till Monday morning 22/06/26

What I can not understand is why no one else has had this problem with the standard brake master cylinder and Volvo Servo. My rebuilt master cylinder does seems suspect but I would not know unless I fitted one that has proven it works to try (doesn't look like that will happen as no offers)

I will keep you posted after I have solved it which I will.

Time to replace your "rebuilt" M/C which has not been rebuilt correctly...Probably the tipping valve is not functioning.

I now have an original brake master cylinder and will fit new seals in and if it works then great, if not my Saab mc will hopefully been on its way to me if they can locate it.

Breakers yards? If you know the model/year it was fitted to.

Hi Harry,

there is a company here in Holland who has many brake parts for classic cars in stock. If you know the type/model/year I can ask for you.

Hi Waldi,

I believe it's from a Saab 99. C & C Parts  (Sweden)did sell it  a couple or so years ago as a replacement for the TR6. Shame they can not put themselves out again to locate it.

The Reservoir they still sell at 66 euros though but no good with out the cylinder.

Have you sent your water pumps off as he is on holiday end of this month?

There would probably be enough interest amongst TR5/6 owners to warrant a short production run of the above mast cylinder.

But then to answer my own question, why can't or won't TRW reproduce them with a revised design that does away with the tipping valve?

Richard.

Hi Harry,

here is a link to the C&C-NL shop, Saab 99 parts.

It says delivery time is 3 days (not in stock). Let me know if this is of interest, if you want i can order and bring the parts for you to Malvern.

Waldi

PS: I have not sent my pumps to EPS yet, maybe I bring them to the UK in August, and collect later this year, as we will be visiting the UK twice (it’s never far in a TR).

Thanks Waldi and if the same go ahead. I can not see the link I am afraid. I want to fit it as soon as possible.

Having two being rebuilt by EPS before he goes on holiday.

Hi Harry and Richard71,

I  called today  with C&C Parts in the Netherlands (C&C.nl), they do NOT have the alternative master cylinder (with reservoir), part no 206020020 on stock and do not expect it will be available soon. I have informed them there could be more interest from the UK TR-drivers.

The lower-height reservoir would be available but does NOT fit the standard TR6 MC so that’s not an option.

I understand they had a similar request from a mr. Dent in the UK😀.

Here is a direct link to the article:

https://ccparts.nl/winkel/?s=206020020

So I’m afraid I cannot help you at the moment.

Cheers,
Waldi

I wonder if this would fit................eBay item number:186979839529.

I ordered and paid for the TR6 replacement to then be told today they will refund me. You would think that if someone was switched on they could order it from the manufacturers

and make a few sales. I did inform them of our master cylinder problems and we are looking for an easy replacement that works. Shame the person I have been emailing does not use their initiative and do something about it apart from the computer says NO.

Search goes on.

I have refitted my Volvo servo and rebuilt (past parts ) original brake master cylinder and even though it really shows up why we do this as it is really a game changer and I will persevere to my satisfaction. When looking into the reservoir and a mate pressing the brake pedal I get a small bubble coming up from the tipping valve area can this be normal or is the tipping valve letting go?

Regards Harry

Hi Harry,
the tipping valve is always submerged so any air that bubbles up comes from the two connected brake pipes OR is drawn in via the main seal (plunjer side).

I have SBF and a Volvo servo and the standard TR MC, and found the SBF entraps more very tiny air bubbles (you need to fill the reservoir very gently), which later combine to larger bubbles and then can be vented.

Knowing you (a bit), I assume that is not the case with your car?

Waldi,

If I have not changed out the rebuilt master cylinder by August for the register fest perhaps have a feel of my brakes and tell me what you think.

Hi Harry,

yes, sure we can do a comparison then! My pedal is not rock-hard, I accepted this and assumed it was due to the Volvo servo. During driving, the brakes are very good.
The pedal does not slowly “sink” to the floor, so there is no internal leakage.

With the std servo the car complied with Dutch regulations but in the modern traffic I wanted more.

Just fitting a SAAB 99/900 new old stock (Girling) master cylinder and the reservoir with it fits under the bonnet with clearance. I now have to replumb new brake lines in the engine bay. Remains to see if its all worthwhile!

My uprated brakes, stub axles, bigger bearings still needed shims to take up play which I am experimenting with and hope that solves that issue.

Now I am cooking! Works as it should and just got to bleed some more air out of it.

Now a happy bunny.

Thanks for putting up with me.

See you in Car Fest and in the modified class hall

No sorry Malbaby.

Classic Car Developments bigger hub, bearings and stub axles sometimes need shimming out and as my kit is an older design it did not have the shims but the new designed one's have. So all good now.
