john.r.davies Posted November 7, 2024 Report Posted November 7, 2024 I got two emails from MotorsportUK, one asking me to renew my race licence for 2025 and the other to register at "Sport80". No explanation for the second, but it looks like MotorsportUK has farmed out its licencing to this general sport related admin site. And it is the compete pits. First, when like a good boy I tried to register, the site crashed, then when I wanted me to upload a passport picture, it froze my browser - got to be a serious glitch to do that, surely? Then after closing the browser down and stating again from the emails, which required me to log onto my email site, again, it took me to licence renewals. I have to make a "Medical Self-Declaration" but there is nothing different to report from this year, so I chose the "No Change" option. It then asks for "Medical Documentation Renewal Details" and "Document type". Nothing to tell what sort of document it's looking for, or why as there is no change, and the drop-down menu has nothing on it! And if I try to go to the "Next" page, it tells me "This field is required." Anyone else got stuck in this pile of sh1T? John Quote
Hamish Posted November 7, 2024 Report Posted November 7, 2024 I had frustrations today with the new system. And I didn’t have to do medical forms can you use the old document from last year as “there’s no change” in circs. ? could it be overload ? Because we all got the renewals email at the same time ??!!! managed to complete the speed events RS National renewal in the end and got a fee receipt email good luck. ps once logged into my “account” there was a “mandatory” marshals training prompt. an online training module- can’t believe it’s mandatory for drivers ??! but I have done it and got the certificate. who knows what’s going on ?? iain Posted November 7, 2024 Report Posted November 7, 2024 Absolute PITA….total fail for me and the boss to renew our RSClubmans licences. Quote
jerrytr5 Posted November 7, 2024 Report Posted November 7, 2024 I haven't tried it yet. Sounds like the sadly familiar IT project: Ran out of time for QA, let the customer test it for us. As you probably don't need it until the spring, suggest waiting for the bugs to be ironed out. I certainly will. Jerry Quote
john.r.davies Posted November 8, 2024 Author Report Posted November 8, 2024 Today, I get the usual printed renewal form, with a letter from MsUK about the new "Sport80" initiative. I suppose that two days after the email lands is lightning quick, but for coordinated consultation with its members (licensees?) it's MsUK, Nul Point! Nothing about the "National Competition Rules", but the excellent Hugo Holder at CSCC tells me that "all sorts of 'webinars' are on their way about the NCR", so I will await them. Not with eager anticipation, I fear. John Quote
Dave McDonald Posted November 8, 2024 Report Posted November 8, 2024 I struggled to create an account and log in, site refused to accept my password (it’s my problem, not theirs, if it’s not sufficiently convoluted). Tried to find new licence section and failed miserably. Put it in the “too hard to do” box and switched off. I’ll try again later. Dave McD Quote
Hamish Posted November 9, 2024 Report Posted November 9, 2024 This helped me open in a new window and flick between this and your set up /renewal page you are setting up filling in you will also have to open an email at the same time to get the verification number so 3 windows open should be do’able Quote
roy53 Posted November 9, 2024 Report Posted November 9, 2024 Yep gave up with it. Hope the post brings something easy. Roy Quote
john.r.davies Posted November 9, 2024 Author Report Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) Reading my printed renewal form reminds me. At my age, I must have a medical and a resting ECG every year! Ok, message to GP practice, and wait, but I doubt if the Sport80 website could cope with that anyway. The purpose of a resting ECG is obscure. If they hope to turn up arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation (been there, done that) which are obvious to the sufferer, or conduction defects which are not but are very rare, or evidence of a previous infarct (heart attack) that has either been unnoticed (!) or the racer won't admit to (?), a resting ECG is pointless. Truck racers, and international licences need a stress ECG, done while you're on a treadmill, which is more useful. Resting costs a tenth of stress so I suppose I should be grateful. Hamish Posted November 9, 2024 Report Posted November 9, 2024 How much is that medical John. Be surprised if the NHS will do it free. i gave up my HGV class one years ago as the GP charged so much for the HGV medical and I didn’t use the licence for work anymore. Good luck and good health Quote
john.r.davies Posted November 9, 2024 Author Report Posted November 9, 2024 Don't know yet! It goes up every year, like everything. More than £100, and then the ECG, taken for the GP to look at by a nurse(and me!) at ?£70. I'll not argue! I used to be in private practice, and my time was worth at least £300/hr. And anyway, because of the astounding success of the the NHS - Yes , ASTOUNDING and SUCCESS! When, for all its problems, it has the vast support of not only the people of the UK but all the staff! - we forget just how expensive is medical care! Anyway, how much does it cost to play golf ("A good walk, spoiled." Wilde, O.) John Quote
jerrytr5 Posted November 10, 2024 Report Posted November 10, 2024 Steady on John, you'll have a seizure. Motoracingmedics are often at raceretro and do the msuk medical. You're wrong, one can have a/f or other heart issues & be asymptomatic. Jerry Quote
john.r.davies Posted November 10, 2024 Author Report Posted November 10, 2024 jerry, In that case why is the ECG not used as as a screening tool to find cardiovascular disease? It will show up arrhythmias, conduction defects, ischaemia and previous infarction, but cannot predict them if normal at the time. And, in the new "National Competiton Rules", that replaces the Blue Book, Chapter 6 Licencing, Appendix 2 Medical, paragraph 4.1, "Medical examination should be reported by the applicant’s GP but may be reported by an alternative medical practitioner suitably qualified." Only the person's GP will have comprehensive knowledge of their medical history, and any other doctor is inappropriate, IMHO. John Quote
jerrytr5 Posted November 10, 2024 Report Posted November 10, 2024 Hi John, Can't answer that question as I have no medical training. All I can do is report personal experience. I guess "may be reported..." is a get out of jail free card. In any case, most of us rarely get to see the same GP more than a couple of times on the trot so reference to 'the applicant's GP' is surely a hangover from a century ago. Jerry Quote
john.r.davies Posted November 10, 2024 Author Report Posted November 10, 2024 And since that time, the old "LG" folders (Lloyd George! Yes, that long ago!) that GPs used to keep patient notes in, have been replaced by computer stored records. My GP, whoever i see in the practice has a screen of my complete history in front of them. I know, I've looked! That history would not be available to any trackside 'GP'. Quote
roy53 Posted November 10, 2024 Report Posted November 10, 2024 I use Motorsport medics at there base in Surrey They do the auto sport show as well About £100 yes I’m in the every year group Treat it like a personal MOT Quote
Dave McDonald Posted November 11, 2024 Report Posted November 11, 2024 I had last years Race National licence medical at my GP. Including the resting ECG by a practice nurse in advance, I think I paid a total of £130.00. Dave McD Quote
Alfrom Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 Yep Sport80 is a true PITA. Another example of a poor implementation of a previously OK interface between a club and its members. Having said that, I tried the Clubman upgrade link a couple of weeks ago and it was a real nightmare. A very easy way to lose a few hours of remaining life. Quote
