RobH Posted February 22, 2025 Report Posted February 22, 2025 (edited) Must be a device thing then? Works OK for me on a laptop. The grey box is just the cover (119 Bytes) - the http link is the document (38.07KB, docx format). I have attached a copy in PDF form here Windscreen fitting instructions for sidescreen cars. - Copy.pdf Edited February 22, 2025 by RobH Quote
Charlie D Posted February 22, 2025 Report Posted February 22, 2025 For anyone who CAN'T see it, check your downloads folder. It's possible that it has decided to stay in that folder rather than opening automatically on the screen. Quote
mark canaday Posted June 2 Report Posted June 2 And now for the quick and easy way the pros do it. Clean the channel put a number of pieces of WS tape about the glass at intervals. Now carefully press the frame together. Trim the tape back and fill the channel with WS urethane.Never mind the mess it blades off in 24Hrs. Make sure it is as full as possible. This eliminates any chances of glass breakage , and leaks. Sure in the old days when screens were cheap ,you could just hammer the frame back on. A few would crack. Today they are NOT cheap. This method helps poorly curved glass survive the install that used to break them. MD Quote

MD You have obviously had problems at some point fitting a screen. I have to say that I had no problem fitting my replacement screen to the frame following Stuarts advice. Not an easy job I grant you but it was the first time I had done it. Ralph Quote

Charlie D Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 I used a rubber mallet to bash my screen in. The screen said "Made in South Africa" on it so maybe it was made tough enough to withstand rubber bullets. Quote
dave bailey Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Does anyone have the 'best' way of fitting a windscreen to a TR4/5/6 ? Dave. Quote
stuart Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 21 minutes ago, dave bailey said: Does anyone have the 'best' way of fitting a windscreen to a TR4/5/6 ? Dave. Fit rubber to screen and then thread a thin rope round the screen rubber in the groove where the frame will sit with the ends overlapping at the bottom apply plenty of lube, Durex "play" works well and is water soluble so can be easily washed off afterwards, lay the screen against the frame with the bottom of the rubber into the frame edge then with pressure on the glass from outside carefully pull the string out a bit each side at a time being careful on the corners until you get all the way round, it may need some slapping on the glass to get it to bed properly. I fit the finisher into the rubber first before fitting leaving the ends overlapping until its been settled for a while though some fit them afterwards. Also make sure its a Moss rubber not anyone elses as they fit properly into the corners. Stuart. Quote

With the correct seal you dont get leaks. Stuart. FWIW, I used Stuart's sidescreen instructions when I did my windscreen a few years ago and even without the correct seal - they weren't available in those days - it all worked perfectly and it has never leaked. It did require a fair amount of pressure and the use of some silicon grease (available from plumbers merchants) to get the seal into the groove of the frame and to close it up with the bottom piece. Sliding the outer seal into the bottom groove in the frame was also a bit of a faff because it was also to big - but at least that also doesn't leak. Rgds Ian Quote
mark canaday Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 Here in the USA a good quality WS for a TR3 is almost impossible to obtain. The supply is so bad that I have had WS's that did NOT fill in the lower corners!! Talk about a LEAK, we are talking bugs coming through!! These had no side reliefs for the screws to come into and were curved poorly to boot!! So yes, poor men have poor ways We do what we must to keep our Tr's on the road and esque higher standards when desperate. MD Quote
roy53 Posted Friday at 04:11 PM Report Posted Friday at 04:11 PM Have down loaded Stuarts wonderful instructions BUT i have 3 screens here and cannot strip any of them ,the screws are all just solid and won't budge. 3 have snapped so stopped. soaking in KROIL has made no difference.HELP One of the frames i have is just the glass surround and will require the fixing blocks that take the screws CD3144 552662. Now they seem to be unobtainable so stuck with that one as well. Roy Quote

Roy You will have to drill out the screws Im afraid Roy, the corner brackets come as a kit with the screws though the heads on the new screws are a tad too big so you`ll need to enlarge the countersink in the frame. I may possibly have a scrap frame here that someone cut down years ago to suit a different size glass, that may have the blocks still in. Stuart. Quote
