Well done Hamish and a tad jealous. I have been searching for my dads Convertible Signal Red Vitesse for 25 years or so with no luck as I do not have the Registration.

Its going to epic for you.

Have a great Christmas.

Hi Phil

thats interesting whilst I have a few photographs of dad racing it I’ve not found any film/video.
sad, but I guess when dad stopped filming VSCC  events to participate no one took over the filming in a serious way. Just the itala trophy and some others

Congratulations Hamish, a great storey. We are envious, we’ve always had a soft spot for Alvis’s and looking forward to seeing the car

All the best Jonathan and Caroline

Whilst visiting mum I have had the opportunity to gather together a number of photograph albums of the car whilst dad it (1970’s to 1999)

I found this picture (circa1997)

of THE Gerry Marshall in the car !!!
this along with Dennis Jenkinson (moss’s co- driver)

Big boots to fill Hamish!

Nah ! It’s not got much of a boot to speak of !!

I’m hoping to keep the TR for competition. So the Alvis will (mostly) be for less speedy uses.

Absolutely fantastic, Hamish. Congratulations.

Great to see the legendary Jenks behind the wheel too.

The burning question is of course, how to mount the GoPro?  :D

All the very best with it, and keep us posted.

The car has set sail but it’s on THE SLOWEST route from Oz it doesn’t get to Singapore until the end of March.

but I found a great builder who has helped me realise some extra garage space.

I have lengthened my single garage in the back garden to accommodate the Alvis and accumulated garage essentials/detritus,
couldn’t go for extra width. There is a garden store on the end as we have lost a large shed.
The original is a concrete sectional garage which was rendered in a brick effect to match the house as best as possible. The builder was the only one to add to this garage and not want to start again it’s a timber frame extension then knocked through. whole thing will be clad in larch wood.
I have added more elec sockets and some led strip lighting (these are great additions to any garage) floors and walls painted. Just need to sort out some additional storage solutions.

some before and after shots.

it turned out the timber frame extension with a good builder was cost effective. And considerably cheaper than a 3 or 4 bed detached house with parking AND a car barn her in Cheshire.

Hamish - do away with the window/s - gives you lots more wall space for putting up shelves/cupboards etc and makes security much better

cheers Rich

Excellent extension.   Needs a power bulge for parts storage   I added a cross ways platform at the far end of my double length garage that the bonnet of the car would fit under.   Great additional long term storage area for bulky bits like seats and body panels.   Be sure the roof is strong enough to hang the hardtop from too.   I have a ratty TR2 chassis in the rafters of one of my garages….just in case.

Congratulations Hamish, it’s all in the planning.

just had a thought what about ideas and photos of inside e.g. storage etc?

Who is first whilst I start the very necessary clean up?

I have had to empty my garage after a car crashed into it, and now have everything stored in a shipping container while I wait for the Insurance company and builders to get their act together.

It's become a good opportunity to get the garage reorganised, one of the things is to do away with a window to give more wall storage, I am also fitting a lot more LED strip lights and some extra power sockets so along with freshly painted walls and floor and a new bench it should be all very cosy. I bet that like me Hamish you are looking forward to moving in

It has been mentioned in passing that I will have to be moving in!!!!

I will be keeping the window. Even adding one further back.
some natural light but also I have one eye on a means of escape. With just the up and over garage door at one end and bench at the other, I did wonder how to get out in a worst case scenario

I’ll also be investing in some fire extinguishers

just not sure on what type

fire sticks, foam, CO2 ?

as I’ll have the usual combustibles and the cars in there.

Looking good, I think you need windows you need some natural light, you could always put a sprinkler system in. Or pop down the road and ask the lads with the big red truck what would be best, we have just had them round to install new smoke detectors in the house foc.

The safety aspect is an important issue and certainly more important than a bit of extra wall space. I am fortunate in that my garage is/was a double with a glazed personnel door at the rear. I keep a full size extinguisher by both the rear and front doors just incase but sprinklers would be very up market

I like to have the tools that I use the most hanging over the bench as it saves so much time over searching through jumbled drawers or tool boxes hence getting rid of the window

To comply with regs you would need a foam (large) and a CO2 one as well. best get a local extinguisher company to supply and contract maintain. I have that at the workshop and its under £100 a year to keep them maintained and certified.

This was an option I was leaning towards

but also may be a fire safety stick in each car for out and about. But available when parked in garage.
the tr has a competition compliant Afff hand held version already fitted.
do a couple of freestanding extinguishers in the garage should suffice.
thanks for your thoughts.

Hang them on the wall so you don’t trip over them or cover and bury them with garage ‘stuff’
