Deggers Posted May 7, 2025 Report Posted May 7, 2025 Wonderful stuff. Congratulations Hamish, really pleased for you. It's finally home. You must be pinching yourself every time you open the garage door. A great backstory montage video too, by the way. Deggers Quote

Hamish Posted May 7, 2025 Author Report Posted May 7, 2025 Thank you everyone. I’m very aware how privileged I am to be able to do this. the car is tidier now than when dad had it with the posh seats and big headlights ( that I need to get working !) I am away at the weekend so I won’t be using it too soon. As I want to give it a good check over. Quote
Waldi Posted May 7, 2025 Report Posted May 7, 2025 Hamish, that’s simply beautiful! And nice music:) Cheers, Waldi Quote
Misfit Posted May 7, 2025 Report Posted May 7, 2025 I’m pleased for you, your photos of your garage has made me realise my garage needs more than a tidy up. It needs starting again internally. Car looks great. Quote

Stuart Hi Stuart I’m afraid at the moment I don’t know what it looked like originally. Alvis - certainly in this period for the big cars only did running chassis and they went off to numerous coach builders. But this random pic is very much “of the type” complete with “running Indian” mascot. Edited May 9, 2025 by Hamish Quote

Hamish Posted May 11, 2025 Author Report Posted May 11, 2025 (edited) Back from a weekend away and looked over the Alvis. knowns to deal with - elec fan thermostat it has a temporary manual switch. But I can’t see a relay anywhere. I guess it should have one electrically speaking. If not historically. lights didn’t work on main beam. The big ones ! and one of the side light was a faint glimmer. I hate - read don’t understand electrics so I struggle. but a new bulb fixed the side light issue. The old bulb looked silvered inside. And the big headlights was an earth issue. Looks like it should earth via the chrome cross tube the light clamps were fully painted so no earth. Paint removed and some copper wire to increase the connection and the clamping forces sorted that. I’m thinking the variable thermostat is my fan issue but for another day. Bit of a polish to get transit dust off and it could be test drive evening Edited May 11, 2025 by Hamish Quote

Hamish Posted October 13, 2025 Author Report Posted October 13, 2025 Good day yesterday as I actually got the Alvis out onto the roads of Cheshire. Whilst it was a TR Register pub meeting they were all very complimentary about the old interloper ( and the car 🤣) I stuck the go pro on despite the chilly misty weather, and ……..there was card reading error on the way out, but worked on the way back. i may have to sort out another remote mic as the sound isn’t interesting but I guess better than some random YouTube permitted music. but you get a feel for it I think. it runs cool when moving - especially on a chilly day but the temps soon rise when in traffic or idling but the fan and thermostats do their job. the steering is very good despite the great number of links from the steering arm. Now in dialogue with vscc(email) about eligibility (sprints and hill climbs) so pictures will be sent for judging and opinion. Alternators are permitted but they like them out of site or disguised for the under bonnet view i wonder if this would work ? Quote
stillp Posted October 14, 2025 Report Posted October 14, 2025 (edited) Looking (and sounding) good Hamish. I'd paint the alternator black and tell them it's a dynamo... Pete Edited October 14, 2025 by stillp Quote
