I have the register app on my phone and it has worked well in the past but when I use it now nothing happens. I log into garages near you and I just get an eye in a maginfying glass which keeps coming up with a cross. Any ideas.

My phone is an android. I have been into settings and the App appears to have all permissions..

Hi Phil,

a message was sent out recently that the APP works on IPhones but problems on Androids.

This is annoying the Germans a great deal apparently

I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled, same problem. The Register made a big fuss when this app was launched and I used it twice a couple of years ago but now it dont work. who is responsible for the app maintenance?

Hi Phil

a full explanation was given last week (possibly not club wide).

I stated yesterday that the problem is the Android platform - if has stopped working on this.

This was meant to be a bit of clever wizardry but the platforms are not playing ball.

It has nothing to do with maintenance but permissions.

Do not throw your AA Road Map away just yet.

Given that android phones are the dominent mobile operating system in the UK its a balls up.

Hi Phil

you are assuming that the balls up is on the part of the TRR.

That may be so but could it it be that the Android platform was taken away after

the APP's inception and is beyond the control of the TRR.

How.

If it is an Android platform issue how do the TRR overcome this.

It was suggested, before the APP came live (and then died)  to have an archive listing of all facilities (that could be added to) that any phone could Google into - not Hi-Tec but workable.

Or go buy an Iphone  - this is not as silly as it sounds.

Cheapo Iphones are no longer an arm and a leg.

@RogerH Is there any way to provide a web based version which could alleviate it, then no native app for either platform would be needed?

I ask as having run SW App developer teams in my last 3 roles before retiring I can attest to the 'Roid platform being a right PITA to support/port SW to whereas iOS (Apple) is far easier. For some strange reason, even in the simpleist of terms, the 'Roid platform obscures things "in the name of security" in some corners yet in others, the base platform can be best described as insecure if not updated (not that Apple is a whole lot better).

Every other app I use on my android phone works so why the problem with this one?

I admit I’m no tech wizard but the mt have had this app developed by someone and I presume paid for it.

get it fixed.

if this is happening then tell everyone what’s happening and you wouldn’t have this topic.

I agree the app was launched as an award winning app and indeed it used to work. I have a Samsun phone and I dont see why I should buy an I phone (  I am surprised this was even suggested), as stated by Steve above, I have some obscure apps eg for bird identification by song anywhere in the world, security cameras on the house, remote central heating control, live garden bird feed camera and storage, all work anywhere in the world as long as I have signal.

I have breakdown as part of the TR insurance scheme

not sure I have downloaded the app

Why are we discussing this on our new  forum, that is supposedly now ‘independent’ of the Register.

Isn’t the Breakdown App part of the TR Register membership package, if members have a problem with it, discuss it with the Register MT, not the general TR community.

Hi Phil

I suggested this and it was obviously rather tongue in cheek (I thought so any way).

Of course you shouldn't have to buy an Iphone.

You have breakdown/recovery as part of your insurance different thing altogether.

The breakdown app is the natural progression of the breakdown directory with it you can find a TR/classic car garage close to where you are and it shows the services they offer, opening times etc. Very useful if you breakdown whilst touring and want to fix your car rather than have it recovered.

It covers a lot of countries in Europe not just the Uk.
