This has already been discussed Iain and it isn't temporary.  The old Google links and any old bookmarks no longer point to the data because it has moved. If the address starts " www.tr-register.co.uk " it is an old link and won't work.

The new ones say "www.trforums.com" but there aren't many yet because Google hasn't found things.   It will take some time and even then the old ones will still be shown as well I expect.

If you preface a Google search term with "trforums"  ( e.g. trforums spark plugs ) the top hits should be the new ones.

Hi Rob

So if I understand correctly there's still the possibility that we have lost the back catalogue/access to the old forum material?

If so it's a sad loss to everyone. I would have thought it would be easy to link the two for some IT wizard.

My simple logic!

No Andy, it's all still there (with the exception of Alec's Inn).  All that is happening is that Google doesn't know where it has moved to yet.   As I said on the other thread, it's as if the local library has moved but the council hasn't got round to changing all the signposts.  The books are still there and most are still stacked in the same order.

TRR has no influence over what Google does - it's just a matter of waiting until their 'web crawlers' have investigated the new site and indexed it all again.  That will probably take some months; don't forget the new site has only been open to view for a couple of weeks so far.

In the mean time, if you do a Google search as Iain did, and get an old link like this that doesn't work:

https://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/43069-cellulose-two-pack-or-what/

it will probably work if you edit the URL to read:

https://www.trforums.com/index.php?/topic/43069-cellulose-two-pack-or-what/

(i.e. replace the bit "tr-register.co.uk/forums"  with " trforums.com")

Links and QR-codes to the old forum I puplished anywhere do not work anymore.

That's disappointing for those who use them from another forum, bookmark or magazin article.

Anyhow, the users know there must be some information anywhere.

I hope Google will find informations anyway - but I know any content from the German TR-Freun.de forum

is NOT found since it has been established 20 (?) years ago. For any reason Google does not work automaticly.

Hi Rob,

Having had need to access some information recently I'm finding if there is something available via Google and if it is, just repeating that search within the new forums.

The method you mention of replacing the part in the URL does not work for me, first with multiple answers I copy the link of the old site like this from a search for Triumph TR6 Overdrive:

https://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/68472-overdrive-worth-the-expenditure/

then change it to

https://www.trforums.com/index.php?/topic/68472-overdrive-worth-the-expenditure/

But for me it does not then work, best I get is opening new forum main page

I realise it is not in our control and there could be some further changes / broken links in addition to the server move, but like you I thought it should work - have I got something wrong?

I could probably find that post on the new forums eventually but there are too many answers.

Thanks

Chris

I also tried changing the tr-register.co.uk to trforums.coml and it did not work.

It did occur to me to put "43069-cellulose-two-pack-or-what" into the search box at the top of the page, because if it is somewhere on this new site then that search would bring it up.

No success.

Ah...

But the "43069" bit would, I guess, be the original "thread number", so searching for that alone in the search box should bring up the correct thread here, if it is somewhere on this site.

Again it did not work.

A bit strange.

The example I gave does work Chris - and so does yours but not if you click on it directly as a hyperlink.

If you copy-and-paste  the old wrong link into the browser search-bar and edit it there, it does work for me:

same for the other one Charlie:

Rob,

YES !!!

What you just said does work.

The mistake I made was including the /forums in the new URL.

Obviously, it is not now needed.

Hi Rob,

Have had another go and it does work.

Think I got something wrong first time when I just got the home page, then I just edited the display name instead of the address while writing the post.

When you edit in the search bar it is the same as pasting into Word then Right Click while over it, one option is Link, then Edit Link. I have used that in the past with unwieldy display text for long address details - so the penny dropped as to what I'd done with your reply.

You can do the same when writing a posting using the paperclip icon in the top line.

Thanks that will make my next search a lot easier.

So the link in my example would be:

https://www.trforums.com/index.php?/topic/68472-overdrive-worth-the-expenditure/

Thanks Rob, thats a very useful tip.

It seems a shame that the old forum content could not have been archived and made easily available through the club website though, there is a fantastic amount of information in there and the above work around is not very user friendly.

The TRR have not done well here.

It shows where their allegiance lies - or perhaps does not lie.

Sadly, the TRR attitude to the forum and all its users it pretty negative.  That attitude is certainly a contributor to my decision to cancel my membership in August this year if the move to increase the subscription rate is successful at the EMM.

The link is pointing at the old domain. Anything hitting those links are being redirected but that only works to take you to the new forum but not to the specific point within that multitude of threads.

Searches are not working well at present until google has caught up and re-indexed.

This still hasn't improved, is it ever going to work again?

I find it has improved greatly.   When you do a search type  "  trforums " at the beginning - e.g. trforums tr6 brakes     The first three or four results are usually to the new site now.

Ignore any results  starting " tr-register....."  because they are old links and won't work.    Neither will any old links you have bookmarked from before the change.

Can't say I've had any success so far trying the above suggestions in searching for anything useful😖.

Seems we have still lost decades of useful information that might attract new and retain members to the club especially in light of the increase in annual subs. It's not an attractive look.

It would seem the forum has being cut adrift to appease us with the hope it gradually fails and I wonder if the club MT ever genuinely saw any value in the forum or simply as an unwanted distraction that used to ask some telling questions from time to time which we can't now ask or contribute to due to the loss of the members only area. A nice ploy MT to stop collective opposition with only individual messages to the MT on the main site - "divide and rule"🤔

If the archive remains difficult to access I will have to consider the value in renewing this year. A shame but I'm sure others will be thinking the same if so the club will go the way of the dodo.

The old forum format was in my opinion better.

To me the forum is the only real contact with the club anyway, and I find that it now comes up even if I use the old TR Register forums link that I used before it was seperated.

If I can keep viewing the forum and posting I see no reason why I should need to spend £72 next year, especially as I am now a pensioner.

Andy

try googling simple terms.

with trforums as an initial search word.

Ie

trforums hardtop

this even finds my posts from 2019.

You may have to expand the results to get more options and the same for images

the system does work.

and it’s what was voted for

as it says in TRAction this edition if you want a private members only forum or have club related issues contact the club /MT

Sorry I've tried that and it doesn't work for me.

Tired again today Hamish on a couple of topics and it still just takes me back to the main site!

Brought up a link to one of my topics in 2024 and again it just goes to new site.

Something isn't right or Google are very very slow at joining everything up.
