Tim T Posted September 1, 2025 Report Posted September 1, 2025 I have just started to dismantle the engine on my project car, a very late 5. The crankshaft is marked as part number 307546 which according to a little research is a TR250 number. TR5s would be 214889 or 214926. Can anybody tell me what the differences would be please? It is a longback crank with a shallow flywheel. Any info gratefully received, many thanks, Tim Quote
had17462 Posted September 1, 2025 Report Posted September 1, 2025 Hi, not sure how long you have had the car but engines get swapped out or even re stamped ,I am sure the guys on here can tell an original stamping on the block Nick Quote
Tim T Posted September 1, 2025 Author Report Posted September 1, 2025 Nick, engine stamping is fine and looks original and fits with chassis number and heritage certificate. Car has been off the road for a very long time, last taxed in 1979. It is the crankshaft number and physical differerences from the published information that I am interested in. Cheers Tim Quote
Rob Salisbury Posted September 2, 2025 Report Posted September 2, 2025 Hi, I think that apart from long or short back all 2.5L cranks are the same, my old Triumph 2.5 Pi saloon had one of the NOS Cox and Buckles TR6 cranks and it didn't seem to mind!! Cheers Rob Quote
Tim T Posted September 3, 2025 Author Report Posted September 3, 2025 I have just found some photos of the knackered crank that was in my blue TR5 and that too has a 307546 TR250 crank, so it would appear to be not unusual. Pretty sure that the engine stamp is genuine. Thanks for your comments. Tim Quote
multipletriumphsinner Posted September 4, 2025 Report Posted September 4, 2025 There are two long back cranks, cross drilled, and not cross drilled. Quote
