Driving Round Britain for Parkinson's UK

The weekend of 3-5th October will see the 29th Running of Club Triumph's Round Britain Reliability Run. This time entries have not been as overwhelming as in recent years, when all places were taken up within a couple of days of the event's opening. However, we still expect ninety- odd cars, including some twenty TRs, to leave Knebworth Park, near Stevenage, Hertfordshire, from 18.00 on Friday 3rd October and any members in the area will be most welcome to come and see the crews off. Since the 1990 RBRR the event has had a charitable element, with the Club choosing a Charity to benefit from fundraising by drivers and up to and including the 2023 Run we have now raised a total of almost £900,000 for a variety of worthy causes.

This time the Club selected Parkinson's UK as the beneficiary and, compared to the last four Runs donations to date have been somewhat disappointing, due no doubt to current pressures on people's finances. We are using the Wonderful.org fundraising platform, as requested by Parkinson's UK, since this organisation makes no admin charge with every penny pledged going to the Charity.

I am entered in my 1966 TR4A with Mike Hockaday as co-driver - it will be our seventeenth RBRR together in the same car and, hopefully, our sixteenth finish (don't ask!). I have completed a further six earlier Runs in the 4A with other co-drivers. I've joined a team to try our first ever RBRR in an acclaim. 
this year is very personal to us as Shaun Roche who owns the car lost his mum to Parkinson’s this year.

Made my 22nd finish in the 4A, which never missed a beat the whole weekend, despite the appalling weather up north. I recorded 2610 miles door to door from my Barnstaple home over four days and the car returned a true 35.1mpg overall. In the event 87 Triumphs took the start with 75 making it back to Knebworth, a 13.8% failure rate, we are still to analyse the main causes to inform car preparation on future Runs. The 1936 Southern Cross finished in fine style. I followed it for miles in Wales, cruising at 50-60mph comfortably and it climbed well too.

Grateful thanks to all donors. I hear that so far the total raised through the Run for Parkinson's UK stands at £75,427 with power to add.

Fabulous effort from everyone involved.

Parkinson’s has featured heavily in our family with both my father and his mother suffering from this wretched disease. 

Well done to all who took part and have raised so much for  Parkinson’s UK who provide terrific support for those with and those caring for patients with Parkinson’s.

Thought I’d close off this thread with a update

Great awards do last night. Honoured to celebrate club Triumph achievements and to be involved as RBRR top charity earning team in the reveal of total raised celebration of £98,570 for 2025. 
and to show we do scrub up quite well and can behave in a glamours social setting with our glass tankard awards.
