michaeldavis39 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Unfinished restoration lol - parked up loads of cash taken to "order" parts and then forgotten about is more the truth. Quote
roy53 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Had a similar/worse l offered last week but wanted to start at 20000 so didn’t bother to post Quote
Charlie D Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Is it my imagination or is there something "Unusual" about that rust? It looks like it has been parked on the side of a Scottish coast road for a couple of years with the bonnet up and been lashed by salt water waves. There are so many white streaks on the bodywork and surely it takes more than a damp garage to produce the rust patterns under the bonnet. My 3A once spent about six weeks tied to the deck of a cargo ship traveling from Athens to Dover. It ended up with a similar sort of patina. Charlie. Quote
harrytr5 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Picture four looks really odd. Triggers broom in the end. I have one of those and so does the majority of TR owners if rebuilt properly. Regards Harry Quote
michaeldavis39 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 I remember my maths teacher had an Escort mk1 that was as crusty as this, after the summer hols she came back with the car painted in green hammerite- by far the worst paint job ever but the Escort looked ten times better than before lol. PodOne Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 A weekends wash and wax and she's be a runner. A decent project at the right price for someone with lots of free time but I suspect they will still want much more than it's worth. Likely one for breaking for parts? Quote
michaeldavis39 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Same car has been advertised on Facebook- apparently same owner for 40 years- very badly looked after if thats the case. Having done a full nut and bolt restore on my own Tr6 I know that even doing the work yourself the cost to put that Tr5 back to a good condition is not financially viable when current restored Tr5s are struggling to sell. john.r.davies Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 But the cost of restoration ALWAYS exceeds the value of resale! John Quote
michaeldavis39 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 On the other hand I think the more of these basket Tr5s come out of the woodwork the better chance of restored Tr5s selling as they offer a buyer a car that is finished and no hard work Quote

John Agree John but if its a hobby and the pleasure is in the restoration challenge as well as the driving it's cheaper than cigs, wine and the gee gees so worth it to some. Andy Quote
john.r.davies Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 (edited) Of course! You don't get any 'resale value' from playing golf, or fishing (maybe a trout now and then), so us restorers are ahead of them! Edited October 8 by john.r.davies Quote
michaeldavis39 Posted October 8 Report Posted October 8 (edited) I agree with Stuarts original comment "not for the faint hearted" - you would have to really really really want to restore this Tr5 as otherwise you could buy a nice Aston Martin for less than the restore cost of this- or other exotic cars to be fair Edited October 8 by michaeldavis39 Quote
Gary Flinn Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 I also spotted this one yesterday at the Stoneleigh Restoration Show? Quote
harrytr5 Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 I was quoted 28-30k fully rebuilt by them. Use your own judgement. I know what they cost. Regards Harry Quote
