Drewmotty Posted November 25, 2025 Report Posted November 25, 2025 No need to SORN first. Just re tax for 12 months using the document number on the V5 rather the one supplied on the renewal document (which you won’t have yet). Quote
Ecosse Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 I have just retaxed all of my Historics using the reference number on the V5, if VED is introduced for Historics I have a reprieve until the 1st November 2026. Cliff Quote

Cliff I can't find any definitive answer if Freddy Kruger from Accounts put the screws to us or not, has anyone else figured it out? Searching the OBR report specifically mentions Electric cars and Plug-in Hybrids (not self-generating Hybrids) so I think we've dodged her bullets for now. Edited November 26, 2025 by Steve-B Quote
GreatOldOne Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 I haven’t. We own two leccy cars. Maybe it’s time to use Ting as my daily driver. 😜 Quote
Alfrom Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 Uninformed speculation does nobody any good, unless the intention is to wind somebody up. Just wait for the dust to settle and allow time for the non-headline small print to be read. The FBHVC does a good job in keeping us all informed - as does the All-Party Parliamentary Group for HistoricVehicles. Quote

Misfit Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 It seems not so far, I won’t be surprised if charged by the mile is extended in due course. Quote

Charge per mile seems fairer to me than road tax in general....Oh, doesn't every petrol/diesel driver already get charged per mile through fuel tax though? Quote

harlequin Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 Self charging cars burn petrol to charge the battery. So are paying duty for the privilege. George Quote
Chris Hale Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 But I can do that with my plug in hybrid Quote
trchris Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 Pay per mile won’t generate anything near what they already receive from road tax / carbon tax or whatever it’s called now it sounds appealing but once implemented l can imagine it’ll soon rocket in price to make up the shortfall Chris Quote

I think the idea is by using electricity from the grid, road tax is being avoided, not exactly the same but a bit like running a diesel car on red fuel or cooking oil, or bulking out petrol with paraffin. Like the old saying states "the 2 things that are certain are tax and death' George Quote

We own a self-charging Hybrid Chris and it also is a petrol car so it is already double-taxed (at the pump + road tax). Why should we pay more than what we're already paying, unless you're thinking we use less petrol because of being a self-charging Hybrid? Quote

There is no (current) plan for eVED on self-charging hybrids, the eVED rate proposed for PHEVs is half that proposed for BEVs. Quote
stuart Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 Interestingly on the subject of VED I see that Search and Rescue vehicles will now be exempt. Stuart. Quote

Mick Forey Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 I read that the OBR stated that pay per mile tax announcement was not a firm decision but only the start of a consultation. Quote

Steve you have missed my point Under Rachel from Accounts proposal Electric Vehicles- pay for the electricity to charge them and will pay a new tax per mile Plug in hybrid- pay for petrol or diesel plus the electricity to charge their battery plus road tax plus they will pay a new tax per mile Self charging hybrid - pays for petrol or diesel plus road tax but won’t be subject to any of the new taxes. To me this just seems odd either both should or shouldn’t pay the new tax to my mind Quote
Chris Hale Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 Like me I am sure there are lot of people that take their electric vehicles (EV or Plug in hybrid) abroad each year and maybe do 2500 miles are we still going to be expected to pay the new tax even though we are not using the roads in the UK? Day light robbery if you ask me Quote

In my mind, not hybrid should be subject to any new taxes whatsoever! Now we sit and wait to see if Freddy Kruger from Accounts does a u-turn on all hybrids 🙏 Quote
