Lebro Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 If that was in an email then I did not get that one. Bob Quote
Lebro Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 Ok, I understand what's going on now. Yes, I did received the email with the code in, but the code was part of an image which outlook (an old version) which I use to view emails on a normal basis does not show the images. If I look at the email direct from Gmail then the image (& code) is there. Bob Quote
Rod1883 Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Yes, my BT email defaults to not showing images, I always have to click on a permission to show them..... Must be some sort of protective thing? Quote

RogerH Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 ......hence more reason to have a members only section. We had it and it was taken away. Roger Quote
Chris Hale Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 3 minutes ago, RogerH said: hence more reason to have a members only section. We had it and it was taken away Come on Roger you know that’s not strictly true. The members of the TR Register voted for an open acres forum, which meant the loss of the members only section. Quote
RogerH Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Hi Chris I believe that the voting members did not actually know what they were voting for. Roger Quote
Rod1883 Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Completely agree Roger - we all expressed our wish that a members section be retained/reintroduced asap. I recall that it was said that a resolution at the next AMM would be required - there is an AMM coming up.... Quote
Ecosse Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Good Morning Rod and Roger, Regarding the Members Only section, or forum, or whatever. As I previously mentioned, Mick Fore has suggested that the only way to have such a section is for a motion to be raised for a successful vote at the upcoming AMM. I would be prepared to raise a motion, is anyone prepared to second such a motion. I suspect that it may just be the longer standing members of the TRR who way think that a Members Only section is a good thing, I wonder if the majority of members give a hoot. Cliff Quote
RogerH Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 (edited) Hello Cliff I would second it for you. It seems crazy that a forum populated in the majority by TRR members and funded by the TRR members does not have an area where TRR members can share club sensitive issues. Roger Edited February 3 by RogerH Quote
Rod1883 Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Also happy to second if required I find the forum a shadow of its former self without somewhere to discuss club matters - both great and not so great Rod Quote
Ecosse Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Hello Roger and Rod, Thanks for that, I shall pursue raising a motion and forward it on to yourselves for seconding. Cliff Quote
james christie Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Count me in too, Cliff, if necessary james Quote
RobH Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 You will need to make it absolutely clear that open access to the rest of the forum must remain. It would be too easy to implement it just by shutting out everyone else. Quote

Misfit Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 May i comment. How is it that a Topic “ Car Feast” ends up just before a members meeting, manages to bring in a post about having a TRR members only section, here on a independant forum. apparently previously taken away. Why, because membership did not know what they were voting for. As I see it what we had taken, a TRR owned forum, now replaced with an independent Self regulated forum which the register pay for. The comments like the majority of TRR members are not interest in the forum, what I saw, a large number of what were known as forumites were not interested in other activities, and this is a large reason for this change, plus a loss of TRR paying membership that now has free access. Has it improved the forum? our we getting a vast number of non members input? I can’t tell but another comment seems to question that, even the suggestions it’s the opposite a shadow of its self. Apparently all it achieved then is less members of a great club. I’ll await the flack, but would prefer this bring round a removal of this and all comments relating to the AMM proposals and perhaps TRForum members find another way to drum up a following to get TRR changes that would not be necessary had it not been for what occurred this time last year, or perhaps just be careful of what you vote for in the first place. The fact that some posts were removed prompted the direction that the discussion took. I made the shadow comment because I feel that the inability to discuss the club and sensitive issues, on a club/club sponsored forum, diminishes the experience. Taking up your final point, sadly there is no other straightforward way to have an open discussion amongst members about such issues - it's not possible in any timely way to do it via GL's and the hierarchy, or via TRAction, and pm's on here are not group chats where people can contribute and debate and build on others views - as we used to on Club matters in a members only area. Edit - I would add that what we were offered and voted for a year ago was this forum or a very very restricted members only forum which would have lost valuable technical input from ex members and non members. We all expressed our gratitude for the effort and hard work that went into establishing this forum back then, and many of us also expressed the wish that a members discussion area could be reinstated in some way. We were told back then that a resolution at an AMM would be required, so here we are....... Rod Edited February 9 by Rod1883 Quote

I consider maintaining the open forum to be worth losing the members-only bit, since that is the only choice we were given. Technically It would have been possible to retain both by junking the single sign-in but we were not given that option. Edited February 9 by RobH Quote
Misfit Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 Rod and others I agree, I believe it is a shadow of its former self, and in part the yes lack of ability to have discussions. The comment it was “taken away”, The vote took it away. It took my TRR forum, a club benefit, something that I contribute towards and gave it away so that others can participate free of charge, plus then continued listening to those ceasing contributing. Why? On the presumption the forum can continue to be enriched by non contributing members posts. Well I have not seen anything over the past 12 months that I could not have found by searching data posted over the past decades. Then to say the members didn’t know what they were voting for. So what that saying because a number of individuals prominent here on this forum whip up support and others just follow that doesn’t say much about our fellow members. That’s what hit me that what prompted my response. Yes Rob there are ways to get members involved, perhaps not quickly but to a wider audience, put your intentions in the TR Action in advance, get others involved but perhaps it would not get the response they hope for. I too liked what we had, just not sure to get it back will not involve more expense to the club to achieve it, but don’t tell me I lost my forum because members didn’t take the time to know what they voted for. Saying that theres nothing on here by non members that couldnt be found by a google search is very disingenuous. As membership numbers are no longer posted means that we are all on an equal footing and there has been some very good input from non members worldwide. The fact that there are fewer people posting here is a lot down to the general age of members who mostly now dont actually work on their cars anymore or have just given them up entirely due to age and infirmity. john.r.davies Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Dragging this thread, kicking and screaming, back to the OP, I've just booked for Malvern and the Car Club Fest. Looking forward! But I want to have an Autojumble stall, to recycle some of the bits that fill my garage and lock-up. The Car Club Fest website advertises that Autojumblers will be there, but no way of requesting a stall! But finally able to leave a request by going to the EventBrite page about the Fest. Be easier from the Fest's own surely? Also, does anyone here know? They offer a 'Weekend/Camping' ticket for only £60! That's a real bargain for three nights on a camping site! Does that really include a pitch on ther excellent Malvern Showground camp site? John Quote
