wheeler Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 Hi, Has anyone had a TR6 hardtop refurbished recently? I have stripped mine, glass and seals removed as well as the headlining. A little welding needed and the metal resprayed. I have a new headlining and can replace that and the seals and glass myself. Before I attempt the welding and respray myself I am wondering what it would cost to have it done professionally and get a proper job done! Bill Quote
AJAS Posted November 1 Report Posted November 1 I had two quotes this time last year just to prep and paint my stripped hardtop - between £650 and £975! Roughly 50/50 spilt materials and labour To wrap the hardtop, around £500 Quote
wheeler Posted November 6 Author Report Posted November 6 Thank you AJAS, I think I will go ahead and have the hardtop professionally refurbished. Bill Quote
OldBob Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 Solid TR6 hardtop available in Essex. With headlining glass and some fixings. Currently dark red / damson colour. Open to fair offers Bob Quote
Waldi Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 I have restored the hard top myself. Getting all the parts was adding up. Only the painting was done in a shop. Total cost including a good almost complete basis: 1500,- euro. (2021) Waldi Quote
wheeler Posted November 12 Author Report Posted November 12 Thank you Waldi for the information. I have arranged a welder to do some minor repairs to the hardtop and then it will go to a bodyshop which specialises in classic cars. I have already sourced a bespoke headlining and am collecting the various fixings and trim. I am absolutely shocked at the price the main Triumph spares suppliers are charging for these little parts. TR friends have given me several items but I still need the 2 brackets see photo. If someone would be kind enough to give me the dimensions of this bracket I am sure I could make them. Thank you for your help Bill Quote
dingle Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Bill-As luck would have, I made a set of those brackets about a week ago. They are fairly easy to make, but require welding and the "tubes" are best drilled&tapped in a lathe. Anyway, if you can send me an email address, I will make a sketch. I am located in the US, way over on the west coast. Berry Quote
wheeler Posted November 14 Author Report Posted November 14 Thank you Berry, much appreciated. I have sent you my email address. Thanks again Bill Quote
Steve Morris Posted November 17 Report Posted November 17 Restored mine at home and coach enamelled ‘after-hours’ in the kitchen. The move wasn’t popular but the results were ok and saved me a lump of cash. Quote
wheeler Posted Monday at 02:41 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 02:41 PM Getting on with the refurbishment of my hardtop, welding completed, roof brackets to body side made with help from Berry Dingle who kindly sent me instructions and dimensions, thanks again Berry. I have now obtained/made virtually all the fixings, headlining, seals, chrome mouldings etc. But what I am missing is the right hand side finisher - hardtop - rear corner - Rimmer part number 716608. I do have two left hand ones see attached photo. If anyone has a spare right hand one I could buy or swap for a left hand one I would be very grateful. Thanks Bill Quote
dingle Posted Wednesday at 06:19 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:19 PM Bill-If you get desperate, the part (716608) is available from a US source (The Roadster Factory) for $27.50+shipping. Berry Quote
wheeler Posted Wednesday at 09:58 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 09:58 PM Thank you Berry, that is considerably cheaper than you can buy it in the UK. I will ask them for a shipping quote. Thanks again Bill Quote
wheeler Posted Thursday at 10:58 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 10:58 PM Just ordered this part from The Roadster Factory in the USA, price circa £20 compare this with UK suppliers if they have it in stock: SC Parts £110, Limora €131, Moss £72. OK shipping is more expensive but only roughly twice what one vendor is charging. Thanks again to Berry Dingle for his help. Bill Quote
