Does anybody know anything about the new site which is replacing the existing one - I only know about this from the message at the top of the Classifieds page - it states the existing site will close on 1st December but doesn't make it clear if the new site will commence from this date.

As someone who uses the Classifieds on a fairly regularly basis, I am more than aware of its current deficiencies which become very apparent when you use it.

I am worried that we may have another so called "improved" IT system imposed upon us, but who has designed it, who has been consulted over it and who has tested it?  Will we lose all our saved "ads" - basic stuff! Anybody know anything?

Having just read that intro. It does sound as if you will lose any existing adverts

Bob - I appreciate what you say but I was thinking more about the "saved" ads in "My Classifieds" - for those who are not aware, if you place an ad in Classifieds and it doesn't sell after a month, it is removed and then goes into your "My Classifieds" where it will remain until you either delete it or renew the listing - I often don't relist something immediately if it didn't sell so have a number of ads sitting there waiting to be resurrected if necessary.

It's not a big deal but it would be nice to know a bit more detail about the whole project so we can make alternative arrangements if necessary before the guillotine comes down - I have tried to speak to the office without success, and have left a message but no response yet - I wonder if issues like the above have even been thought about ?

Cheers Rich

Well yes !!
I thought there was an acknowledgement that communication needed to be improved!

If I dare to make another prediction: the new website is planned to go live on 1 December. The old one will be archived and no longer visible. GLs and website editors are fully aware of the plans. They are busy loading events and news items so that they are visible from day 1.

Classified ads on the new website are much easier to use, solving many of the problems with the old one. Even I succeeded in adding a test advert with photos. Once it's live you can add new ads.

Forecasts are fraught in an ever changing world.

Thank you Mick, useful information for those that use the Classifieds - I'm not one of them. If I may end on yet another negative note, pity this wasn't announced before the  'panic' set in!

Mick, Much as your contribution is appreciated, why oh why do we have this lack of communication with the Forum from the MT. This has been an issue for years. Why is so difficult to tell people what’s going on in advance.

I give up - I have just spent over an hour typing an important response to Micks post and twice now at the end of my response, it has just disappeared - so cheesed off with this - usually you get a message saying the editor has restored your post but not this time - there is an awful lot of unanswered questions about this

A really cheesed off Rich

James, we had announced the new website so many times and then had to delay for a number of reasons. This time we thought that we would wait until we are reasonably certain that it will actually happen. Can't win either way.

Rich, please contact me directly via pm or email to chair@tr-register.co.uk.

Hi Rich,

I totally understand the frustration - I'm not sure of the cause, I'm afraid, so can only offer an alternative option.  If it's a really long post, I think it's more reliable to type it all out in something "local" to your computer or other device - a Word doc or even a draft email or something.  Once you've finished it, you can then open a reply on the Forum and paste in all the text.

No, it's not ideal.  The danger with spending a long time typing direct on the Forum is that you are doing it "live" over the internet which is not always reliable.

I feel your pain :( .
