Chilliman Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Probably but it would be better if you used one from each end & moved to the middle, that way the outer cylinders will be held by three & the inners by four, whereas now you have four on the outer & only two on the inner. Quote
Hamish Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 This is what I did this year. but my liners are bonded in and I didn’t turn the crank just withdrew the pistons and conrods. worked for me. Quote

I get what you are saying but the centre two studs are further away from the cylinders as 2 and 3 are further apart than 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. So larger diameter washers are needed (which I don't have). I'll have to fabricate something from some scrap. Quote
Deacon Blue Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 Another quick question. The inlet port on the head is larger than the aperture on the inlet manifold. Does it help the flow if the inlet manifold is opened out? Steve Quote
Lebro Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Ah, TR3A head ? on a TR4A manifold. Mine was just the same. I opened up the manifold to match, but have since learned that it would have been better to reduce the size of the head inlet port (using a sleeve) to improve gas flow. Mick Richards may have an opinion on this. Quote
Motorsport Mickey Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 The mismatch of the inlet manifold Dias to head is not insurmountable. You could lathe up a slip in collar for each head inlet tract blending in the smaller manifold inlet dia of 1 1/2“ to the larger 1 5/8” head inlet tract to help maintain gas speed. The gas falls out of the manifold and loses speed in the larger head tract dia, it’s worth an effort to “ shrink” the head 1 5/8 “ inlet with the collar down to the 1 1/2” manifold inlet tract exit hole.
