MilesA Posted December 3, 2025 Report Posted December 3, 2025 David I used YouTube to check radiator flushing process myself a few weeks ago. Made a check list of the stages involved. Pasted below in case you still need assistance. Radiator was super clean, alas. However, I subsequently balanced the entire system (again YouTube videos) having bought a cheap thermal measuring device. Rads were all over the place and mostly out of balance. Offending radiator performance now much improved. Radiator flushing 1) Turn the heating off and let the radiators cool down first. 2) Protect your floors - You’ll be releasing sludge and dirty water from the radiators, so get the towels ready. 3) Turn both valves off - Isolate and shut the radiator off from the rest of your central heating system by turning the valves at both ends of the radiator off. Make a note of the number of turns on the lock shield valve. 4)Disconnect the lock shield valve from the radiator. Disconnect the other valve. Use a mole grip or something similar to brace the valve as you undo the nut - prevents pipe bending. 5) Release Air Pressure - Place basins under each valve joint. Then use a radiator bleed key to open the bleed valve to remove any air pressure. 6) Drain the radiator - Catch any sludge and dirty water that flows out of the valve with your basin. Once you have drained the radiator, from one side, disconnect the thermo valve from the radiator and drain from that side. 7)Once completed, close the bleed valve with your bleed key. 😎 Take the radiator off the wall - Remove the radiator, turn it upside down and take it carefully outside to a drain to flush it safely. 9) Flush the radiator - Still upside down, attach a hose pipe to the radiator valve inlet and give the radiator a good flush with the water on full pressure. Flush from both sides. You can tap with a rubber mallet to loosen crud. You can also use a pressure washer. 10) Reconnect your radiator - Hang the radiator back on the wall, re-tighten the nuts and open both valves. Remember the number of turns on the lock shield valve. Open the bleed valve to let air escape. Tighten the valve once bled. 11) Check and top up the boiler pressure if needed - If the pressure has dropped below 1 you will need to repressurise the system with the external filling loop. Good luck. Miles Quote

john.r.davies Posted December 4, 2025 Report Posted December 4, 2025 David, What do you have for security on your PC? I use Norton ( others are available) and never see personal.profiling from.YouTube, or anything else. Requests to send "cookies" yes, but i always reject all but 'essentials'. John Quote

It's excellent and with something like 'ccleaner' to flush out spurious cookies etc, you would be suprised at how much memory space I save on my computers! Quote
