Jezzer Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 Hello fellas, just had a thought! Before I put petrol in the tank, is it worth putting some sort of tap or shut off valve between the tank outlet and the fuel filter? Im pretty sure I’ve read something in the forums about doing this but I can’t find anything using the wonderful search facility. As always, any/all help and advice most welcome. James Quote
Chris Hale Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 (edited) James The short answer is yes. It makes any future work on the fuel system so much easier if you can just switch the supply off. I.e changing fuel filter or pump. But it really depends on how easily you can fit one between your tank and fuel filter. Whilst not actually using this particular tap myself, I believe this is what is currently recommended to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263623144871 Make sure it is a full flow valve or you end up putting a restriction in the supply line Edited December 2 by Chris Hale Quote
Steve-B Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 James, here's links to 2 pictures of said valve. I didn't find the results strangely searching "This Forum" with "fuel AND cutoff" but did from the top level forum page...one shows it with a modern PRV and one with the original PRV... Quote
jimt Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 (edited) I have this cut off tap set before a high flow fuel filter to make changing the filter easier. Then runs to a Bosch pump & filter fitted externally under the boot floor. Edited December 2 by jimt Quote
Steve-B Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 I’ve got the same tap already on order as Stuart suggested and I’m going to install it just below my fuel tank before my pre-filter which is in my winter to do list… Quote
Mike C Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 I use a full bore SS ball/SS body/ PTFE seat ball valve. Easily available and will last forever. Quote

Jim any idea what size that top fitting is I have the Tap but can’t seem to find the correct fitting between it and Tank,Cheers. Quote
jimt Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 Hi Niall Sorry don’t know - although I put the pre-filter in, the tap and fittings were already in place having been fitted by the PO as it comes as part of the revington Bosch pump kit RTR4050XK Quote
Chris Hale Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 Niall Dont know what size that fitting is but it is readily available at hydraulic hose/parts suppliers I just took the outlet pipe fitting from my tank and the tap into them and got them to match the fitting which from memory they just took straight off the shelf Quote
Trev Good Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 When I changed my fuel filter (something worth doing on a regular basis), I simply used one of my brake line clamps on the fuel hose from the tank! Quote

harrytr5 Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263623144871 My favourite petrol tap. Made in Italy and 10mm bore. Lots of stockist's due to import cost's have pulled out stocking it which is a shame. Ebay is your friend here. I found a local to me that stocks this and the appropriate connectors between tap and tank and tap with either a push on barb connector or my favourite Jic 6. Lovely bit of kit. Regards Harry Quote

Regards Harry +1 That's the one I used in the Pic above which is my car before I changed the PRV to a modern diaphragm type. I think the connection could be improved by eliminating the short rubber section from the tank to tap. Currently have a 10mm outlet from the tank bought from TRGB. As an alternative can anyone advise a brass 10mm fitting to screw direct into the tank and the tap? Thereby eliminating the short rubber section. Thanks Andy Quote

Thanks Andy Is that TRGB 10 mm outlet a direct replacement for the original one? I’d like to standardize all the hoses on 10 mm Gates Barricade, but at the moment the hose from the tank is in 8 mm to match the current tank outlet size. Quote

I have need to remove the tank to calibrate the sender so it would make sense to copy your solution. Thanks Andy Quote
michaeldavis39 Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 When I changed my fuel pump and filter which are located in the outside wheelarch area I just used a fuel clamp- took seconds to clamp and unclamp and I didnt have to remove my boot trim and no fuel spillage- just saying. Quote

If I remember it was 1/4 BSP to tap and *1/2" UNF to tank and drilled a *bigger hole in the union hence the safety of the doughty washer and PTFE tape to seal. From tap 1/4 BSP to JIC 6 to then connect up to braided teflon pipework where I make up the aero fittings from Speedyflow. Not cheap but the best. I changed my Applemac as too old to my super Apple lap top and lost the majority of my pics which is annoying to say the least. Regards Harry Quote
PodOne Posted December 3 Report Posted December 3 Thanks Harry like your solution even more with the pre filter. I get mixed up with all the various threads/adapters! I'm no expert but have you considered syncing your Mac to Apples i cloud that way you will never loose anything. You can also link your i phone as well if you have one. Andy Quote
