Dic Doretti Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 I saw this sailing past the house today but what is it apart from being a contender for the ugliest ship in the navy prize. It has been parked at Faslane for a couple of weeks, suspect its looks may frighten the opposition or make them fall about laughing! Cheers Richard Quote
Chilliman Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 The Proteus, it was down here at Devonport a couple of years back. Quote
Richard65 Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Navylookout.com has the details and a sectional drawing. It’s the navy’s first seabed warfare ship. Quote
Tony_C Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 "Boaty Mc Ugly Face"….?! It would be nice to be able to say ‘well at least it looks functional’ .. However, it appears you can only get the bow line(s) ashore from mid ships if you clamber over/round the lifeboat!? To be fair, a lot of commercial, off-shore etc vessels have gone back (100+ years) to that bow configuration Quote
BlueTR3A-5EKT Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 What is it? Something the British public paid top dollar for as a used vessel. https://www.tradewindsnews.com/offshore/p-o-maritime-takes-big-profit-by-selling-subsea-ship-to-uk-government/2-1-1391280 Quote
Charlie D Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 I wonder how much the respray cost to change it from Blue/Red/White to battleship grey. Quote

Since when was any HMS Warship painted red, white and blue? Except, of course, for the ensign. As said above this is RFA Proteus, a specialized Royal Navy ship: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/organisation/units-and-squadrons/support-ships/rfa-proteus John Quote

Ian Vincent Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 8 hours ago, Charlie D said: I wonder how much the respray cost to change it from Blue/Red/White to battleship grey. It probably had a major refit before it went into the service for the MoD and that would have cost a lot more than a respray. Rgds Ian Quote
