Howdy all,

I'm in the process of of rewiring my 1971 TR6, and while examining the ignition switch, I've noticed that my steering column lock is different from others I've seen discussed online.  It's marked Neiman 53.  Though our car was built for North American export, it was actually delivered in Germany - presumably to a U.S. serviceman who then took the car home with him to the U.S.  My research shows that Neiman locks were common for continental cars in the era.  The issue is I'd like to replace the ignition switch, but can't find a unit that fits neatly with the Neiman lock.  It also appears the the Neiman unit does not have an arrangement where it's clamped to the column with a separate piece on top.  Rather, it's one casting with a split on the left hand side, with sheer bolts only on the left side.  The right side is solid.  It appears that the column slides through it.

Anyone happen to deal with removing one of these units?  It looks like I either have to cut it off, or disassemble the steering column and slide it off (which sounds tedious).

Attached photo shows the right side of the lock assembly, which I've loosened and rotated counterclockwise to get a good photo.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, nightmare to fit or remove .   Made them quite thief proof compared to the split yoke type.   That said, today you could whizz it off with a cordless angle grinder inside a minute.

The Neiman switch and lock assembly was also used on MG sports cars of the period and was fitted as an option on Spitfire and GT6.

That is one, by part number quoted.

It is not the single sided clamp type fitted on OPs message.   Not sure that the switch fits in the same way.

Thanks all!  I put a cutting wheel in my Dremel, and in five minutes, I was able to remove the Neiman lock.  I'm going to relocate the ignition to the plinth with the heating/choke controls, just as it is on our TR250.  Thanks again for the wisdom!
