Hi Folks,

Just now I'm getting a Suspended account when trying to get into the Sideways forum.

Is it just me or has anybody else seen this.

Yes I see that too - it happened a few weeks ago as well Roger.    The site was being spammed which generated huge amounts of traffic, and the hosting organisation shut it down while Craig sorted things out, which took about 24 hours.

Not it isn't - is is working OK and has been for some time. 

Since Craig's update though, I have been unable to log in using an old browser which had worked OK until the change. What happens is the Cloudfare check gizmo goes no further - it just continually repeats instead of going to the site.

 I changed to using Firefox and it works just fine,  so there is some incompatability between the Cloudfare thing and the old browser.

Currently you almost all log in using your username and password.  When we go to version 5 of our hosting software, you'll need to change to using your email address instead of your username.

We all fear change, but this is a minor one, and I'm giving you a couple of weeks of notice.  

Be ready... It's not a big change.  But if you've been here a long time, and your email address has changed since you registered, it might be a good time to update it.

I keep Sideways running as cheaply as I know how, but we do rely on your donations.  In the AI world, it's getting harder to keep the bots from the door.  My time is will always be free, but it's the donations that keep us able pay the ever increasing bills that allow us to keep Sideways ad free, mebbership free, and up and running.  

Please start logging on with your email address, and be ready for change.  I'll keep it as light as possible.

thanks for that Hamish, it still loops  the security check on my iPad using safari but can log in ok with Firefox 
 

Doesn’t seem to work on safari i get the cloudfare loop problem as well will try Firefox if I can remember my password 😜

That's probably a later version of Safari Hamish.   FWIW  I have checked an up-to-date version of the Opera browser and it works ok on that too.    Many websites now are often optimised  for Chrome since that is what the majority seem to use these days, so other browsers using the  Chromium engine like Opera, Brave and Vivaldi are usually fine.  

Safari is Webkit - based so doesn't always work properly,  particularly the older versions. Firefox is based on Quantum so also  may not work properly either if it is not the latest build.   Blame the website coders for not sticking to standards.

Are you trying to access "www.sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/"?

Try adding HTTPS to the front, thus "https://www.sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/" - it might be enough to bludgeon it into submission. It worked for me!
