Grahamgl Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Gentlemen, I am trying to fit a new stainless steel exhaust system to my restoration project. As loosely fitted the back end of the first silencer is fouling the rear axle tube, n/ s. Has anyone got any pictures of a fitted system which could help me to resolve my problem please? Thanks Graham Quote

Thanks Graham Where did the system come from, that is a regular occurrence with some of them, the first long silencer is just too long and the pipe to it from the front isnt quite long enough either, whats the fit like at the side of the gear box as well? Grahamgl Posted April 7 Author Report Posted April 7 Hi Stuart, I bought the complete system from Holdens, twelve months ago in readiness for the rebuild. Here is a picture of the loosely fitted exhaust. It like as you said the silencer is either to long or fitted in the wrong place on the pipe. The fit by the gearbox seems ok but as yet I haven’t tightened up any fixings. Graham Quote
TR graham2 Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Graham i think you have the box the wrong way around , a original mild steel one is a tight fit , so anything incorrectly made on a replacement will require modifications . graham Quote
Lebro Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 I wondered if it was reversed. The front end of the box should be almost touching the chassis member. Bob Quote
stuart Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 I had a similar problem with an exhaust on an Italia, took a bit of careful moving around but got the clearance from the axle in the end though it was tight. There was no way it would fit the other way round either. Stuart. Quote
RogerH Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 When I was playing with the exhaust on my 'Blueracer' TR4 I sertiously ocnsidered fitting two of the smaller rear bozes on it. One at the back and one at the front. I bought the box but never fitted it. That box constantly got in the way around the garage. Roger Quote
