John Mellor Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 The ride in my bog standard tr4 is appalling these days due to poor condition of so many suburban roads. Rather spoils the experience, the shaking and juddering loosening my fillings. Ideally I'd like a more supple ride and with less body roll. May well not be possible in a car of this age but wonder if anyone has successfully solved this John M Quote
stuart Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Spring rates, shock absorber settings, suspension bushings and tyre pressures all play a part in the ride quality. So it does depend on how your car has been put together. Stuart. Quote

None of the cheap stuff is much good unfortunately but that shouldn’t be a surprise Quote
Hamish Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 As said above it’s a combination but soft springs if you can find them would help. or you could try and fit an air ride system. ? Quote

jerrytr5 Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 I'm guessing that if the cart springs have led a long life & the car not used much then the leaves could be rusted together making a solid bar rather than a spring. Worth dismantling ? Jerry Quote
John Mellor Posted April 8 Author Report Posted April 8 Neil Revington rebuilt the car, powder coated chassis and body off rebuild so pretty sure structural side of things fine and it's only done 10k miles since then Shame really, on good roads it's lovely. Wonderful drive across Spain 2 years ago on their fabulous roads. Maybe our roads in Southend are particularly bad: years and years of Tory councils boasting how little the council tax increases have been won't have helped. Whoops shouldn't let my politics show through !!! Quote
greg cooper Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Option 1 move to France or Spain Option 2 stick some extra lamps on the front paint it powder blue and assume the trip to Sainsbury’s is actually a rally stage ? Quote

Whoops shouldn't let my politics show through !!! That actually could be some of the problem, Neils suspension packages are good but I find them to have too little compliance compared to original fitment. The difference between hard poly or Delrin and rubber is quite a lot. Possibly also uprated rear springs wont help. Stuart. Edited April 9 by stuart Quote
Andy Moltu Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 I keep meaning to do an FOI enquiry to a few councils to see if they spent the supposedly ring fenced road maintenance monies on the roads or diverted it elsewhere. Quote
Ian Vincent Posted Thursday at 06:48 PM Report Posted Thursday at 06:48 PM I don’t think it matters who’s in control, the roads around me (Frome) are pretty rubbish. Rgds Ian Quote
Ralph Whitaker Posted Friday at 08:47 AM Report Posted Friday at 08:47 AM Some of the best cared for roads near me are in North Yorkshire, they seem to have got their act together and a very noticeable improvement as soon as I drive over the border. Ralph Quote
