TR5 Wingard mirror passenger side

Hi, have original TR5 wingard mirrors fitted to the car, cannot get enough adjustment on the passenger side one to make it usable, anyone come up with any creative ideas how to get the head  to twist around further without changing the attitude of the stem .

Have you thought about using a convex mirror?

Ive seen these yes, but i still dont think you can get enough angle on the passenger side to make them usable

havent fitted mine so also interested in what happens

i have bought those mirror replacements but not fitted 

long way to go before i get to that stage

is it not as simple as moving the stem a little or is that a door card off etc to get to the nut ??

I think you just need to move the stem round a little, its not much but it will help.

It’s not easy you need to put it in a different position to the drivers so they do not look equal to get a proper view.

This issue has been raised before.

I have one on my TR5 door and could get it to either:-

1. View the correct rearward alignment just off the back wing but it pointed way up into the air, far too high or

2. View at the correct height but it pointed outwards far too wide, looking at the roadside hedges 

After much experimentation with stem position/ rotation in the door, I fitted a thin wedge of very hard plastic round bar from a local supplier, under the base where it bolted on the door skin. So with the stem in orientation 1. above it viewed  along the rear wing but tilted down to the height I wanted. It worked.

I’ll try to remember to take a photo and post it on here.

Thanks for all the replies , i guess make take door card off and trying and move the stem a wee bit, but it may have to wait as have a fuel pressure issue at moment thats challenging me

Hi Dave,

I have exactly the same problem with my TR5. Whilst there was a Triumph publication in the day showing how to position the driver’s door mirror, which my car complies with, I’ve not seen one for the passenger’s door mirror. My passenger side mirror is positioned as per the driver’s side. However, I have found a solution of sorts. I took a white plastic marker tag of the type one uses for identifying which seeds have been sown and pushed that under the front of the mirror stem mounting, between the stem base and the plastic part that goes against the door. This tilted the mirror stem rearward slightly and I was able to adjust the mirror to get acceptable rear vision. I then cut a piece off the tag and pushed it into place, where it remains today.
