I’ve just bought and fitted the Rimmer seal to my TR5 and now the boot won’t close. Any advice, please?

Throw it in the bin and buy the one I recommended further up this thread. .https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1928-small-boot-seal.

OK, thanks. Interestingly, the Rimmer one seems to have the same profile as the one Iook off, which looked ancient, so I assumed the new one was correct.

Oh it will have but it wont be made to the same spec of material. Also you would find even if you could close the boot after not a very long time it would roll off the lip along the bottom and hang out of the shut.

Hi ,

Read my post from May 2nd in this thread, ... it will eventually allow the boot to close and you need to glue the bottom section in place, .... just give it time ...... about a year or so!!

Thanks, I’ll try weighing it down. Problem is, I want to get out driving while it’s good weather!  😎

If it's any consolation back in the early 70's I had a genuine Triumph one (in a Jaguar/Rover/Triumph plastic bag) over the counter at Lancasters in Kingston and that gave exactly the same problem!!,     it did last along time though.

Hi all

This one solved my problem of the boot staying proud and not closing. I think RogerH also bought one and as far as I know it sorted out his similar issue. By

I’m doing the London to Brighton run on Sunday (is anyone else) so trying to solve a long term exhaust leak between from pipe and steel 4 into 2 manifold.

By the way, is Holts Firegum still the best exhaust assembly paste?

Hi Kev,

good luck on your repairs and run on Sunday.    Yes,  that seal sorted my boot lid issues.

Thanks mate should be a fun drive. A visit to Chiddington Castle is an official stop en-route, before Madeira Drive in Btn.👍

Say hello to Madeira drive.
enjoy the run.

this is my dad competing in his 1220cc supercharged cooper 1958/9 on the sea front

And later (later 1970s) his Alvis with Stirling moss co driver Dennis Jenkinson at the wheel .

Hi Hamish

Priceless photos. Was this the Brighton Speed Trials, and is the car still in your family?

The event started in 1905 I believe. We used to go in the 70’s. Now we’ve gone so woke they’ve had to cancel it, but only 3 years ago.

Interesting to see the spectators with proper cameras! It’s still a nice place to be, and for the vintage car run in November.

Plenty of beer, coffee and food to be had and I think you can bring your own Classic to Madeira Drive for 15 quid on Sunday even if you’re not doing the run (probably cheaper than parking tbh!)
