North London Mike Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 Agree, if you are going or even thinking of going, buy the tickets. There is zero risk associated to the purchase (100% refund T&C's if cancelled) The MT need a minimum number of advance tickets..................so, if we want the event we need to support it Quote
trchris Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Well it’s again being held in the height of the summer whereby prices are inflated for accommodation and with the majority of owners having to travel the cost of fuel may put a lot off . I’m one that won’t be going as there’s exactly the same shows locally as the one at Malvern Chris Quote
harrytr5 Posted April 25 Author Report Posted April 25 Chris, its once a year and one of the reasons of me joining the TR Register! I have been going every year apart from one, due to illness. With out an international yearly I have to question myself do I still want to be a member. I just love the occasion and meeting old friends with all that goes with it. So come on you lot, purchase those tickets lets have a good one. Use it or lose it. Regards Harry P.S Jas (TR5) is having another update and will be in the hall amongst TR,s,Etc that have been modified. (a show of hands would be nice) Quote

I fail to see how Chris can claim there are 'exactly the same shows locally as the one at Malvern'. Car Club Fest is unique in its ambition and scope and points the way for the future. With threats to our hobby on the horizon we are indeed Stronger Together. Tim Quote
trchris Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Hi Tim well Sandringham pageant of motoring, Lincolnshire classic motor show are just 2 that’s less than 50 miles from me which will be almost identical to Malvern. The point I’m making is that people are now being particularly cautious so early uptake of tickets isn’t possibly as expected. I’ve done it many times a 7 hour round trip in holiday traffic isn’t fun, last time in June was far better but for some reason “let’s do it in August “ seems to be a good idea, for some now the ferry costs are going to be extremely expensive but hay ho l hope all who attend have l great time l don’t want to sound negative and certainly don’t want to cross swords with anyone just my opinion Chris Quote

Inflated travel and accommodation costs as well as the usual peak season holiday traffic. Yes I did buy my ticket the day they came on sale too. Stuart. Edited April 25 by stuart Quote
RogerH Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Hi Chris I agree with you that August really is not a good time to have this event. Here in the London group a number of our members could never make the august date as they had very long term committments in other places. July for me and others was 'the' best time. Sadly due to delays in booking Malvern etc we have lost that slot (as I understand) My simple reason for going is very much like Harry's. It is n't the cars for me but all these friends that come together once a year for a special bash. Roger Quote
stuart Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Have any of the guest clubs given any reason for their poor ticket sales? Stuart. Quote

Guest clubs have not had much communication re Malvern, and certainly no data on ticket sales. But a timely reminder, I will email our club membership again now the better weather is here and people are starting to think about using their cars, holidays etc. FWIW I really enjoy the chance to attend such an event with like-minded people, and meet up with so many friends. Thinking out loud, TSSC seem to have been nonplussed about the event, no idea about MGCC. That could account for a good number of lost ticket sales. I am not a TRR member, so have no idea why the original group of 3 organising clubs parted ways. From the outside though it looks a little self defeating for the event. Sort of Stronger Together (but without the others) Re money, I heard one of the reasons for the hefty TRR membership fees was to support the event. What happens if it is cancelled? Quote
RogerH Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 Hi Clive don't even think about it being cancelled. That is not part of the plan. TRR and TSCC members work together well - sadly TRR & TSSC MT don't so it seems. What can possibly be better than joining with many friends, that you may not see all year long, and having goog time. RogerH Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 Hi Folks I have spoken to Leslie on the MT and they are now aware of unfounded panic rumours. They will discusss. Roger Quote

Roger I was only repeating what was said at the top of this thread! I don't want it cancelled, I have always wanted closer cooperation between clubs. However, the devil is always in the details, or so it seems Quote
stuart Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Can I make a suggestion that as this years "Car fest/International" seems to be popular would it not be prudent to try and book next years at a more cost friendly time of year i.e. June. Stuart. Quote
harrytr5 Posted Wednesday at 07:53 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 07:53 AM I,m with you Stuart. I bet next year has already gone (Malvern) is it not possible to book years in advance? Come on MT Regards Harry Quote
RogerH Posted Wednesday at 08:13 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:13 AM Back in the early 2000's the then MT booked it for 9 consecutive years for the end of July. Probably saved a bundle of dough. Roger Quote
trchris Posted Wednesday at 09:41 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:41 AM Why does it have to be Malvern then ? Surely there’s a venue more central to everyone if l remember we had a cracking day at silverstone with the MG club a couple of years back and it was well attended Chris Quote

RogerH Posted Wednesday at 06:02 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:02 PM Hi PaulChris, this one has been going round for many years. It isn't central to the country that is the issue, it is central to the active members. In the past it has been considered that the majority are in the South of the country. But that isn't all the answer. Some owners actually want to drive to a destination, not have the destination brought to them. A few years back we decanted to Harrogate ( a fine part of the world) but very few North East members turned up and hardly any from Scotland. Yet Malvern attracts the Scots, Irish, Dutch etc etc. Anyway only Malvern has Elgar Roger Quote
