SLongley Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 I've had a failure that looks like fatigue to the rear cross member that holds the rear leaf spring shackles to the chassis. N/S has snapped and ripped right off the chassis. Anyone had experience of repairing this area? Can it be sleeved internally and welded back on safely or does the whole crossmember need to be replaced? Thanks Quote
Lebro Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 Yep, a common thing to do to re-enforce that tube, best done prior to fracture ! Bob Quote
Black Forest TR3A Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 I have to admit that mine "only" was bent out of position on the left side... Quote
iain Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 All too common a weakness and a nice demonstration of how to strengthen/ repair. Quote
stuart Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 Its always been a recommended mod also its good to fit a couple of triangles as well one each side to further prevent twisting. Stuart. Quote
Dic Doretti Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 I used the handle of an old trolley jack to strengthen the chassis tube, it was a nice tight fit. I like the idea of triangulating the tube, never thought of that. Cheers Richard Quote

BlueTR3A-5EKT Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 My first TR2 had a broom handle pushed in on one side. It worked fine for a couple of years. Quote
