Good morning,

on my TR4A I have silver painted wire wheels and want to paint the black with spray cans.

Does anybody have experience with this? How successfull will the black paint cover the silver?

I don't want to notice this doesn't work on the first wire wheel....

This is my TR with black dusty wire wheels.

Hi Marco

usually the black will not cover the silver very well.
So, apply a primer coat first.

You could consider an aerosol of 2K Black and maybe a clear lacquer on top.

Hi Marco

The biggest problem will be the preparation unless you’re able to sand/ vapour blast, as Roger has said you will need a good primer l would use etch primer before a good quality topcoat

If you have a Lidl shop near you they do an excelent metal paint which you can spray direct onto metal, or even light rust. Called Metal paint with rust protection. I use it for most jobs. Comes in black, white  & grey

Hi Bob,

who has not a Lidl shop near by? 😃

BTW the company headquater is also "near by" (about 60 km) at Heilbronn...

I have spray cans from another supplier "Norma", but to test I have a look and test one.

Also make a test with a primer and without on the spare wheel.

Did you know Lidl is a famliy name, but not of the ower family (still a private company)?

Some advice on painting wire wheels from John at University Motors (I know he is an MG guy, but always worth listening to. Retired now, but still shares his knowledge).

Thank you, at the moment I'm so much pleased with my very well cleaned rims (I've never seen them THAT clean),

so - at the moment I don't know what direction to go. 😃

I did some practice on a spare wire wheel and this looks very nice...
