Chris Hubball Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Need to replace my Ignition Coil. Is the extra cost Bosch or Flame Thrower Coils worth it? My TR4 engine slightly modified Piper Yellow Cam, Pete Burgess modified cylinder head, with Aldon electronic ignition fitted. Any recommendations would be appreciated . Cheers Chris. Quote

Hamish Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Aldon seem to recommend their own flamethrower coil https://www.burtonpower.com/aldon-ignitor-2-lucas-43-45d4-74-80-ignklu143.html That’s the system that would govern the coil rather than the head or cam. Quote
John Morrison Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 In our pinned threads section there is a thread on coils, worth a look John Quote
AndyR100 Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 A word of caution with the Bosch one - I was helping my father who was having trouble with his ‘37 Riley Kestrel, his brand new Bosch coil hardly managed to produce any kind of spark (good thing his garage wasn’t very well lit or we’d have missed it completely!) my spare that has been in my boot longer than I care to remember worked fine. He could have received a one-off duff one, but, personally, I would look for other brands. Quote
RobH Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 There are lots of fake Bosch parts around Andy and easy to get duped if bought on-line. I understand Bosch have now moved their factory from Brazil to Mexico so if it is genuine perhaps that could be the reason. Quote
RogerH Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 (edited) A couple of years back Marco recommended a german coil - name begining with 'B' and about 4 or so characters long. It worked well and was not expensive Roger PS - itis Beru. The Beru Blue coil Beru Coil Edited May 1 by RogerH Quote
AndyR100 Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Thanks Rob, he didn’t mention who the supplier was, although he usually uses reputable sources - but you are right, like a lot of NGK’s it could have been a dodgy one. Quote
Ian Vincent Posted Wednesday at 09:32 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:32 AM I have a Bosch red coil (with ballast resistor) it works well. Rgds Ian Quote
