Tony_C Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 What do you think?…. (Don’t be shy with any vaguely factual criticisms, I know it’s bonkers!) A SWOT chart would definitely say no, price of petrol after Trump’s shenanigans, no room in the garage etc, etc… But, my gosh it’s got a presence and would be wonderful down to the S of France, Swiss Alps etc.. The ‘ opportunity’ has come out of nowhere, the current custodian (89) has owned it most of its life and is now decided to go and live in the States, leaving in a couple of weeks… Quote
Kiwifrog Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Why wouldn’t you ? Just for poodling around in summer with the roof down. Cars like ours don’t need good mpg they are to be enjoyed, what else will we waste our hard earned cash on , Food ? 😄 Quote
RobH Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Miliband won't like you, and Greta would have a hissy fit..... GO FOR IT ! Quote

They are both strong reasons to buy 😎🤔! Yep Kiwifrog, don’t think it would be a long term keeper like the TR but a summer of fun would scratch the itch (that I didn’t previously know I had)…. And foods overrated in the main? Quote
Harbottle Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Scratch that itchTony, you will only regret it later if you don't. Looks lovely. Quote
Hamish Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Go for it if the suspension and hydraulics, steering pumps are good Quote
stuart Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 Surprised he hasnt opted to take it with him, they love them over there. Stuart. Quote
TwinCamJohn Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 If there is a good service history, then why not. Probably not that expensive ? Quote
Tony_C Posted May 1 Author Report Posted May 1 Thanks guys, Stuart, he definitely looked into it, that was first choice but "not possible " into the state they are ending up Hamish, all of you(?) will understand that it is a serious amount of money- for me anyway - more than I have ever spent on a car before; even the new ones!… However, this does appear to be an increasingly rare occurrence of me looking to buy interesting cars (we won’t mention boats!) in that this is more a friend of my wife, who mentioned this ; which makes it her idea this time?! (if you go by the history and costs then the service records are impeccable…… However, BFG recently went there 🤔 Quote
John Morrison Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Tony life’s for living think you might always regret not buying it? John Quote

BlueTR3A-5EKT Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Very nice. I have always hankered for a Camargue, just because. The bank balance would reject my decision though, so it won’t happen. Hold onto your hat if the exhaust goes rotten though. The pipe anti-vibration mountings are £100 a pop to kick off with. Quote
Charlie D Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 There is always the problem with vandalism with a car like that. My advice, if you do buy it, is to brush paint it with Bondaprimer. I did this with my 3A and so far no one has put a key down the side. It may look a bit odd, but it doesn't detract from the hood down fun of driving it in any way. Quote

Yep, I got ‘gazumpped’ on a Carmargue years ago, this was back in the day when the purists hated them.. which I thought was their problem… who knows how it would have turned out but it was an awful lot of motor car for the money Quote

Ha, spot on!……@rob John, we haven’t even started to get into the nitty gritty of negotiating yet… However, he did mention that the dealership who do all the work said "upwards of £70k… I could and will if I’m serious politely point out that they did not actually offer this figure.. and nor will I! - That said, I like and respect this Gent.. and feel more than a tad sorry for him (none of my business but it appears to me that his younger American second wife has pushed him into a horrible corner?!)… if, if and maybes this could be me or any of us in 20 years? I think only nuts and bolts are items it shares with other models in the range. Quote
Hamish Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Think I’d top out at 50 max for an unknown car and rushed sale if I really really wanted it. And had the garage space. It’s not a car that can be left out Quote
