Ecosse Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 Does anyone have any experience of fitting the clutch operating rod in a LT77 gearbox with the gearbox in situ in the car. Any hints gratefully received. Cliff Quote
Mark V Posted May 21 Report Posted May 21 Well Done Cliff ! I couldn't get mine back in, so I had to remove the gearbox. Any secret to it? Mark.. Quote
Ecosse Posted May 22 Author Report Posted May 22 Hello Mark, After installing the (rebuilt again) engine and gearbox back into the car I was experiencing an issue with the clutch. I had a similar problem last time which was resolved by installing a distance piece in the slave cylinder to effectively increase the length of the operating rod. In an attempt to solve the issue with the new uprated clutch I removed the slave cylinder, but unfortunately there was a clunk and rod just flopped around, together as I later discovered with the operating fork. I did not relish the prospect of removing the engine and gearbox, or just the gearbox so decided on a drastic measure to try and resolve the issue. Look away now if you are a purist. I drilled a couple of large holes in the bellhousing in the area where the operating rod connects to the fork by means of the plastic clip. With a bit of fiddling I was able to line everything up and reconnect the fork onto the pivot pin by pushing the assembly in a straight push via one of the holes. After a couple of attempts I installed a new distance piece to increase the effective length of the operating rod to 150mm which now means the clutch clears and select gears with ease, with good pedal pressure and the bite point just where I like it. I hope this helps, there goes my Concours trophy. Cliff Quote
