Removal of old sound deadening

Probably in the 70s or 80s a previous owner added a fibrous matting sound deadening material to the boot and bonnet of my 6. , believe they were sold as a kit. As  it appears to trap heat in the areas I wish to remove it,any ideas as to how to do this and remove the glue without stripping the paint from the panels?

Well I have spent this afternoon sanding down the inside of the bonnet where 40 year old glue did not want to leave the car. I didn’t try any solvents because I thought I would paint it anyway but it was everywhere - reducing the engine noise seems a very un TR thing to do ..

Careful use of a hot air gun and a hard plastic scraper is about the only way then use spirit wipe to remove any left over glue, Doubt you`ll be able to do it without paint damage though.
