Fuel Filler Cap Seal

For some time I had been plagued by a petrol smell in the garage. Following a sniff around I concluded that it was emanating from the filler cap. I dug out all the gunge in the 'U' channel (using masking tape inside the filler neck to catch any small pieces to prevent them falling into the tank) and cleaned the channel thoroughly. I sourced a suitable 4mm section E10 resistant nitrile rubber 'O' ring and secured it in the 'U' channel with a general purpose adhesive. So far the seal seems highly effective and the cap now passes my sniff test.

I have done the same.   The sealing flap still has a vent hole though

Yes Pete, strange isn't it, my vent hole is clear but doesn't seem to leak enough vapour to notice.

Same here for O ring , no hole in mine though  still using original banjo connected vent pipe down to chassis level. Also no smell.

This ring can be salvaged from an old oil filter. It is a bit too thick, but can be sized

down and is then a perfect fit. Made a lady of my 3B.
