Lebro Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 (edited) Just giving the car a quick check over - compression tests, plug cleaning & colour check, then I thought I would check the valve clearances. All going well until one of the locking nuts would not tighten up. The adjuster screw had sheared just below the nut. (probably overtightened by me) So, Has anyone got a spare 4 pot adjuster to hand before I have to order 8 at £32 + postage (from Moss) or £10.25 including postage for 1 from Rimmers Bob Edited June 29 by Lebro Quote

Will dig it out later and take one off or do you want two just in case? Stuart. Quote

Lebro Posted July 1 Author Report Posted July 1 I'm sure it's because it would be an aftermarket shaft assembly. All good though. Hamish, the shaft is lubed from the inside where it needs to be. The spacers (in theory) are supposed to stop any sideways movement of the rockers. Not sure how much difference it makes. Bob Quote

I went through this when I got roller rockers and the supplied adjusters were too short. Another trick is to fit the lock nut under the arm instead of on top. That gains a nuts thickness of adjustment As can be seen employed here on no 1 on my friends 27 litre aero engined car. Quote
Trumpy3 Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 RE spacers instead of springs on rocker assemblies. I run spacers on my roller rockers. My max RPM is 6000 so the possibility of the rockers moving along the shaft is low. My reason was to centralize the rollers over the valve stem. I made spacers from aluminum that were slightly shorter than ideal. I then used steel washers (shims) to position the rollers over the valves. Sourcing the shims was much easier than expected. I visited my local bearing shop to see what was available. He said he use to stock some shim washers but stopped due to lack of interest. He still had some old stock and I was welcome to look. Yes, he had exactly what I wanted. 0.010" shims the perfect size. The steel shims separate the aluminum rocker pedestals and the aluminum rockers,reducing any chance pick up. Does it help performance.... do not think so at the RPM I run. It does stop that uneven wear you can get on standard rockers. Beside....it looks cool. Brian Quote
