I am about to re-assemble my clutch operating assembly. It seems views on lubrication vary.

What does anyone recommend for the specific aspects.

- Between bronze sleeve and nose

- On operating pins

- On  cross shaft bushes

- On the front of the bearing, where it will touch the fingers

- On the splines.

Currently - I expect to use white lithium grease  on the bushes, medium moly grease on the splines, copper grease on the bronze sleeve and front of the bearing.

Some advise is to fit the bronze sleeve dry, a Moss application note for their carrier suggests copper grease. When sorting this out this time I notice that the nose and carrier were slightly sticky , so I thoroughly cleaned and have lightly polished the nose, so that now operates smoothly.

(The clutch used is Laycock and the release bearing is Kyoyo incidentally).

Many thanks

I always use copperslip.

Thanks for the reply Stuart.

I decided to go ahead and use copper slip for most aspects. Also cleaned and polished the nose so that the carrier travels as smoothly as possible. (I did use some lithium grease for the shaft bearings however.)

Just don’t forget to fit the two 3/8” diameter dowel bolts first to align the gearbox to the engine.or all you efforts could be wasted.

Thanks Pete. I have ordered two as they were missing. The car is generally very correct - but checked through  the fastenings and they were not there, other bolts had been used instead.

Cheers Tim
