stillp Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Just had my renewal from Howden's. Documentation in a single email attachment of 117 pages! Has anyone else had the same? Pete Quote
BRENDA1 Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 When are yours up for renewal? Mine is up in 2 weeks I have tried to ring but no one is picking up, could be time to look elsewhere. Mike Red Rose Group. Quote
RogerH Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 From day one I could not get cover from the club insurers and so I am with another very good insurer. Peter James - This year my 4A with unlimited mileage is £228 not the cheapest but I'm happy Always answers the phone when I call. Roger Quote

Mine is up in 2 weeks I have tried to ring but no one is picking up, could be time to look elsewhere. Mike Red Rose Group. I spoke with them earlier today. After reading in TRACTION about the chap with a TR5 getting badly let down in Switzerland by the recovery service, I have been checking my policies. The breakdown cover for my campervan is with Adrian Flux and has a policy number, but my TR cover with Howdens is just a generic leaflet which relies on the insurers being able to trace the policy through name and reg No. I'm sure it works but it does leave room for error George Edited July 9 by harlequin Quote
Chris Hale Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 We were advised by the late Derek Hurford to make a note of the breakdown cover policy number many many times. Unfortunately people for what ever reason have ignored that advice and then got into difficulties when needing to be recovered. Recently while attending the Triumph Club de France national meeting I saw the breakdown cover work for a fellow Brit who need his car brought back to the UK. The policy no is Breakdown Cover KGM Policy Number TSO/6900196 Quote
BRENDA1 Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Well I’ve just had a Email from them, to renew my policy, and it hasn’t gone up will be the same as last year with unlimited mileage. Harlequin I don’t have their brake down cover, we were let down by them so if we need it we use our bank cover and this has worked very well for us. Mike Red Rose Group. Quote
Hamish Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 They are good for my modified 3a and the Alvis. they couldn’t cope with my modern. Quote

Chris Hale Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 For your insurance yes As I understand it the breakdown cover is a group policy and that’s the number they need to check your entitled to use it Quote

I have never had to use the service and am sure it works, but when on a wet night in the middle of the Yorkshire moors the half asleep person on the other end of the phone says "sorry we can find no trace of you" it would be nice to have a policy number that will take them straight to my details with no ambiguity. RogerH Posted Friday at 08:10 AM Report Posted Friday at 08:10 AM Hi George I thought that the policy # was the first question. Roger Quote

Chris Hale Posted Friday at 09:42 AM Report Posted Friday at 09:42 AM (edited) I renewed my insurance in April and in the documents they sent me was the DAS European Breakdown information booklet and policy which clearly states Policy Number TSO/6900196. Nigel A Posted Friday at 11:16 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:16 AM Looks like they have changed providers now, previously I always had the DAS booklet etc. Nigel Quote
Lebro Posted Friday at 11:16 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:16 AM Is this the difference between the insurance policy, & the breakdown policy.? Bob Quote
Nigel A Posted Friday at 11:17 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:17 AM It’s always been separate policies Quote

Or is the number you are quoting for the several hundred people insured through the Register or maybe everyone who has insured with DAS I'm asking as when I spoke with Howdens this week they didn't think there was an individual policy number and the paperwork I received was just a generic leaflet whereas my campervan breakdown cover from Adrian Flux is quite clearly specifically for my vehicle. I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit nitpicky, but following the artical in TRAction where the chaps holiday was wreaked due to DAS not being able to find his details I thought it best to get clarification from home rather then the side of the road George Quote
Nigel A Posted Friday at 11:29 AM Report Posted Friday at 11:29 AM They are now using Call Assist which has unfortunately a few very bad reviews on Trustpilot together with many excellent ones. in the past have had bad service from the AA and would never use them again if I had a choice It seems to always be a gamble and depends who turns up. I am not saying anything different than I did in my first post The European Breakdown Assitance is provided by DAS and the Policy No is TSO/6900196 you may then have to give more information Screenshot of the document I was sent Quote
